If the torque ratings for gearboxes are anything to go by (the fact mine has munched at least two F20s makes me think they are) then a LET would chomp an F18 pretty easily...

imho the F number torque rating is a losd of old toss.

eg the F23... by the "claims" its rated to 230Nm continuous. BUT the 2.2 N/A puts out nearly 200Nm of torque, and that gearbox is put onto Dervs and LETs firing out way way way way in excess of this "limit"

I think the F20 is now old and tired in most cases hence them being eaten by almsot anything.
I'd not relish driving a petrol engine on a derv box as the jumps between gears would be annoying at best. Great top speed though lol

the deawoo box im usin is basically an f16, and has taken a serious hammering, stuarts right alot of f20s are old and have had a hard life at this stage, the f18 derv box is the same as a veccy f18 petrol box just diff final drive...so shudnt be too bad?

f18 boxes are really weak, had loads of diff problems with them in vectras, i would think a LET would just blow one apart first time you hit the loud pedal hard,

could i fit an f16 diff to it? i no that sky blue nova c20 let on tsw stealths used to run an f18 you no the one with the massive front mount

The pinion is machined into the mainshaft, so you'd have to rebuild the f18 gears onto the f16 output shaft. I've done similar before to get ratios I needed, but to be honest it's a lot of hassle! (and not a perfect job)

You'll never really know unless you try it

Yes, but going in it being a GM item, i.e. Yank, I'd wager its an imperial pounds/foot rating, not a metric newton/metre.

...if it IS newton/metre, that would explain a lot as the 308 puts out 270Nm LMFAO

[edit] A LET is 207lbft, so the F23 could hold one with relative ease assuming it is imperial ratings. Cav abt Calibra Turbos were 6spd, so F28s? And the 152V6 is only 167ftlbs so will happily work with an F20...

yes its worth it... as a stop gap. just buy a f28. or rebuild an f20 and make sure its in good nick.

the box im using at the moment is bloody bullet proof, its an f16 with a daewoo gear cluster and a 4.9 fd(unknown origin) its far too short for driving on the road, i think ill try the f18 and see!
