Can anybody recommend an aftermarket digidash? Quite fancy something different in a stripped interior with no dash, don't think an Astra GTE digidash cable tied in there will look as purposeful (and have as many features as aftermarket ones offer)

Obviously there's Stack dashes etc but I believe they're quite expensive? Is the VAPOR dash on RallyDesign any good?

Cheers.

No such thing as cheap in the World of (proper) digital dashes.

STACK are wonderful, but pricey (circa £1000). I've had them in various different cars over the years, and have one ready and waiting to go into my next Nova.

I've got an AIM one in my Cosworth, which was about £600.

Race Technology do a nice looking set-up for about £500 (IIRC), but I haven't used that one.

Fair enough, thanks for your input, take it the Vapor ones and the like aren't up to much compared to those then. lol The analogue revcounter & features on the Stack ones looks quite cool but can't justify that price at the moment!

The analogue tachometer on the STACK is their best feature. STACKS do come up secondhand on occasion, but be VERY careful about what you're buying. The sensors are about £50 EACH if it doesn't come with them, and don't even think about buying one without the bespoke wiring loom (well over £200).

There are also all sorts of oddball STACKS around which have stratospheric rev-counters for bike engines, and others which have been programmed at the factory to talk to the ECU, rather than taking their signals from the sensors directly.

Any sort of repair of modification by STACK is an expensive business.

I've seen those VAPOR dashes at Rally Design, but I don't know anyone who's used one. I presume they are a glamourised version of a mountain bike computer (which plenty of race cars have used in the past).

Kev has a dash of some sort that is pretty good. Think its the same one CP has (or had) too.

Dont think about a VX220 stack as they are slags to get working with a nova lol

Cheers for the info Colin!

A quick search finds this pic of CPs, which looks like one of THESE (http://www.etbinstruments.com/DD2_lite.htm)

Can't seem to open your link to the ETB page, and in fact I can't get into the ETB website at all.

There are a fair few race cars using ETB stuff, a quick glance at the Demon Tweeks catalogue suggests they start at around £350 +VAT.

It's an ETB Digidash 2 Lite, £375+VAT+delivery. Can't imagine trying to drive using a numeric rev display though.

you just feed it a rev signal.. easy

Nooo, not how to wire it up, I mean actually reading it while driving opposed to a dial or animation style one.

Agreed, the analogue rev-counter will always be best in my view.

The AIM one I have uses a digital bar graph, and I really don't like it off the start line, it's difficult to get the launch revs spot on.

Once it's rolling I just drive off the shift lights, so it's not a problem then.

I guess the other solution is launch control, something I need to look into anyway.

surely unless its the first time ever launching, you just get the revs by ear and feel.... thats how I drive. Tbh the dash could only have speed and warning lights for all I care as all other info is pretty pointless

I'm launching in hillclimbs and sprints (and in a 4WD car), so every hundreth of a second is critical.

then you need to get to know your car better rather than relying on instrumentation ;)

I have veypor vr2 nice bit of kit does g force, speed which is worked out by 1 or 2 wheel sensors, revs, shows what gear your in, circuit timer, staged 1/4 mile, top speed memory (167 woo woo), the speed on mine matches track n roads rollers too so it is accurate!

Racetechnology looks good value for money and has had some good reviews.

And its inclusive of all sensors which is rare when you buy this sort of thing

Thanks Paul, it's the motorbike one you have? Remembering your separate gauges in your car led me to find these combined revcounter and speedos: http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=P/ESPC-S090-B Could be good but you'd need another 5 odd gauges somewhere too.

HybridTurbo, this unit? http://www.race-technology.com/dash2_2_31.html Looks quite cool actually.
