As title. The woman has lost the keys for the car and has said I can have it for £50. Its a suzuki alto. If I take a lock to the main dealers will they be able to make a replacement key??

In all fairness they will/can order a key precut from the main suppliers to the original lockset, although depending on the year it will possibly need coding, so although it will open the car and take off the steering lock it wont turn the immobiliser off so wont start the vehicle!

so, if you want a key coding will it be alot more money?

Buy it, get a new lock set and ignition barrel for another £50, sorted. Maybe.:wtf:

how old is it? and recoding is probably dealership charges for getting the codes (£15-£20) and an hours labour (£40-£60?) but it will only need recoding if its a newer generation of car. but i'm gonna say if its being offered for £50 its an old one, in which case break in and hotwire ftw. whats the point on spending money on a £50 car.

Its just to thrash round a field so Im tempted to just hot wire it to be honest. Ideally a key would be nice though lol

What year is the vehicle?

I work for a renault mainstealers and a rough price for new key and coding is £80-£90 for the plip (plastic bit of key with button/buttons on) and £10 for the blade, then the vehicle would need to come into the workshop for coding which is £50, and the newer keycards (laguna and newer megane's, are £100 + coding)

Obviously yours aint a renault but the prices wont be overly different tbh!

£50 sounds way too much for it... you wouldn't get that much for scrapping it.

Will possibly be a transponder key at a guess but not too sure tbh, might be worth enquiring with your local suzuki dealers?

No chance of a transponder key. 3 quid at the cobblers FTW. Offer her £20 though.

Hotwire it and use a piece of scaffolding to snap the ignition barrel off, jap cars never heard of immobilisers till about 1995, just make sure you take proof of ownership with you, as you can be arrested for suspicion

Give her £50, jump onto the bonnet and have the biggest dump of your life, jump off and say "thanks" then walk away.
