it would fit but why would you want to fit it?????

if you are planning to make a carbed 1600, then why not use a 1600spi from an astra with 1.4 bits??

get some 1200 pistons, rebore your block & stick them in....
then use a 1200 head gasket.
you then get a 1400 hi comp engine

you will need a bit machining out of the pistons depending on just how high you want your compression ratio to be

if you go for a 1600, you will be needing the bigger gearbox/flywheel/clutch too

thank you you again for the reply and think thats probably the best plan , the car dont hang about now and revs very well :), so may take your advive and start a rebuild on the spare engine . thanks for taking the time to reply , gearbox

anyway, welcome to png. if you put a thread on general chat, introducing yourself, its a good start, once you have 15 posts on your count, you can post piccys.

bit of advice gearbox90... nobody is a polite as you on here

once you have been on here for a while, you'll get used to the hard banter.

does the 1.6 spi head have the same sized valves as the mpi version? if not then sod putting a ****ty head on when the 1.3 will be better in that respect (although no where near as good as the 1.6 mpi head with some fettling to a carb inlet)

thank you stuart for your advice , but if i gotto change gearbox`s and that to run the 1600 i think i may stick to a 1300/1400 , it is very nimble atm and very good fun up our herefordshire country lanes , but thanks for taking the trouble to answer me , gearbox

I'm now confused... I thought you had a 1.6 engine and wanted to fit a carb to it.
