Been mad looking a mint original SR for a while now but when I found this it had to be mine, 2 owners, 28000 miles and full history. Had one of these before I had a SR back in the day and always kind of perfered them. Don't think any Nova ever took any of my GT's at the traffic light grand prix.

plus they can hold a large bottle of coke in the door pockets yay.
Never been keen on them but that does look very tidy mate.

Forgot all about that, it's about 8 years from I sat in one, always loved the map reading light in the roof they have. My first GT in standard form would take GTE and crx vtec's at the light but they run out of puff too soon. Mine could take 1.3SR top end but a Mk2 1.4SR could always take it after about 90mph.

I had a bit of fun with one back in the day in a mk1 SR. 3's up in both cars and admittedly the AX had a couple of fat basts in it. I beat him just, was a good race though.

My missus had a 1.1 which got sold to my best mate, another friend went and got a TDI golf and decided to give the 1.1 a go off the lights. The little AX was way ahead up to about 50mph, we were so suprized!

Look aweful but suprizingly fun to drive.

I'd much rather have the 205XS and put the GT gearbox on it.

Don't like AX's at all tbh. Don't care how good they may be to drive, they look naff as hell.

Looks very nice and original Maurice:thumb:

Are they the standard wheels:confused:

15-08-09, 01:33 PM
lol, Little Jamie D has one of these with a 1600 16v engine from a saxo throw in. Good little shifter tbh.

Ive never actually had one of these, Very nearly bought a GT as my first car but ended up with a 1.2 nova saloon. Insurance was just far too much at the time.

Great little cars in the twistys, But i would opt for a clio 16v or even a saxo VTR they are very light tho :D

^^ I think the GT is 4 stud.

I dunno why people keep sayin they are ugly as hell, that GT looks class, same can't be said for standard 5 door 1.5D's though!!

Awesome mate. Looks a really tidy one! Reminds me of my mates, nice flask of soup in the door pocket for watching the stock cars lol.

Is it the AX GT that has the bootlid hinges bolted through the spoiler/glass? So if the window breaks you have no boot? lol

This reminds me of the one that knocked about here years ago, twin upswept centre exit DTM and rumoured to run a BX GTi motor, although I'd guess VTR. Quick car!

stop with the calling saxo's names already....

they are a cheap runabout that young people like to modify..... sounds familiar doesn't it....

ax's were a cheap runabout but were made from egg boxes & plastic, so very few still survive

Both are horrid French rubbish that allways break. Electrical nightmares!!!

As for being the orignal Nova beater, I think not!!

A saxo VTRVTS is a great car.

saxo/106's are not great cars, a mk2 nova is put together better inside, French electrics, torsion beams and brittle front end suspension components make them nasty.

Proper ace little cars!! Hoot to drive!

Best bit is 106 GTi motors fit in them too :)

I'd say with the experiance ive had of saxo's (VTR) there not the best
But after spending £700 partially fixing it she sold it and got a meggane coupe
im unsure on how goos the megganes are but still she has electrical problems with the wipers stopping when brakes are applied and when reversing the rear wiper goes wild

Very nice, i nearly brought a little black and green axgt500 once. The little axgt i did drive for a while though felt very quick tbh, quicker than my sr.

A saxo VTRVTS is a great car.

I'm liking the AX mate, nearly bought one years ago. Went for an SR instead though.

I bought a Saxo VTR brand new back in 2002, not great cars by any stretch of the imagination though in my opinion. Think a 1.3SR is far more fun, possibily as quick too.

But the thing about nova's is they work!

My mum had a saxo, she sold it when it got 7 years old, and the amount of problems it had in that time was unreal! everythings just made out of cheap plasticlol

Turbo, direct port nitrous, VTS bottom end IIRC. Had it running. Just needs to fine tune it and get it roadworthy. Motorbike exhaust pokes out the front bumper!!

Err VTR, 8 valves. Why the VTS bottom end wit the turbo?

AX's are cool now there are next to none around. A GTi reversed outside our house last week. They were 4 stud.

Was just thinking that myself actually. When they were 10 a penny, I thought they were sh!t, but seeing that one makes me think they're pretty cool.

Still, wouldn't have one though, the crappy/old/rusty/small/ugly/french POS lol

I like them. I was going to buy an E reg one about 12 years ago for my first car. Proper rust bucket but was fast as hell, and all for £250 lol Insure wanted £2500 though!

My mate had a nice facelifted red GT before he bought his Breeze blue 14 SR. :)
