hello there, just wondering if anybody knows how insurance companys work out a price for a redtop nova, some people ive been speaking to reckon you need to insure it as a kit car? im asking because i am getting a redtop nova that is registers as a 1200 still and i want to swap it over so its legit, however i dont suppose il be driving it for a couple of years as im onli 18 with a years ncb so i doubt anyone would insure me :(

thanks

they base the quote on the car the engine came from i think

^ some do, some have a fixed price for engine mods, some do it on power etc. It varies.

I know at least two companies (I forget who they are now but can find out) refused to insure me on the V6 as the power increase was too much (it was a 1.0 originally, so 45bhp to 210bhp lol)

haha oh right, yeah i know some of my mates insurance companies just wack on a massive price for engine mods but i didnt know if that would count as and engine transplant in that, if it does then happy days but i dont think it does :(

im 19 in feb, but i was thinking of making the car into a project anyway because the shell needs tidying up, i was paying last year £90 a month on a 1300 sr so i think the insurance on an xe'd nova would be sky high for me for at least another year

19 will put you into the realm of the likes of Sky and Flux/HIC, tres good for modified cars.

I just tried getting insured on my xe nova. based on the fact I'll be 19 in october. insured from then, tpft, 3 points, lowered, exhaust, wheels and biggeer brakes, driving since april 2008, 1300 quid! Thought thats was well cheap! Then found out I cant get no claims as I've been on my dads trade policy ever since I started driving so it went up to 2500! :( . So looking for a cheap car to insure now just to get no claims bonus. So wish I did it as soon as I passed. My first car was a corsa 1.4 16v sport, to insure that at 17 standard was 1900. had cav fan blades lowered scorpion exhaust angel eyes etc etc.

hi guys need some advice. ive got an evo 6 tommi makinen replica. its a 1.3
im insured as a second driver my dad is the first hes got a couple of years no claims bonus and had a lisence for over 10 years.i am going to do a evo 6 engine swap to it. i want it to be legit so therfore i am going to declare it on the v5 and tell my insureance company, however will i still be able to get insured on it eventhough i was previously insured for a couple of months as a 1.3. will i still be able to get insured as a second driver? if so how much will it go up by roughly?

Hard to say as we're mostly experienced in Nova insurance here. How old are you, whats your postcode area and how much do you currently pay? That should give us an idea on a baseline for the cost.
