all this does is prove the theory that unless you know the car from first hand experience, you should never buy a modified one and expect it to actually be modded as it says iin the ad....

I've only just seen this thread and it had me pissing myself for a while.

Mogli, Buying a modified car is a great idea, It not only saves you a **** load of money but also a lot of time when things are done correctly. Most of us are keen on cars and know a good car/bad car when we see them. I pay no attention to engine mods Unless they are backed up with reciepts and a whole load of other bollocks.

Usually mapping reciepts and rolling road print outs etc. I guess, you need to look a little deeper if you thinking about buying modified.

the problem with modded cars is that a lot of people think that by modifying a car, you are increasing its market value, when it is only worth what someone else wants to pay for it. falsely advertising anything is illegal, and a lot of the time some young lad with a few quid is going to get stung thinking he has got a bonafide road warrior, when its an old shopping car with a load of bodges.

a good friend of mine once bought a nova 'sr' that was actually 2 welded together, and it had vented 236 brakes, but only one vented caliper...... he paid good coin for it & ended up selling it for £50 to someone who needed an engine...

Now this bloke has seemingly thumbed thru an old max power & found a few phrases that make the engine sound great on paper, but not bothered to make sure they are on the car..

I also love his comment about selling loads of cars... he is the only bloke in the uk managing to do that..

burgo
13-08-09, 10:57 PM
but thats because he sells them cheap to get rid. so we thought it was a good deal at that price for that spec when in actual fact nick over paid by about £600 hence why he demanded £500. even tho to get it upto the said spec it would cost about a grand

novait
13-08-09, 11:00 PM
there is alot of people out there like that.. shame really..

burgo
13-08-09, 11:03 PM
it is a shame and all anyone can do is to expose them and hope to help other people from getting stung

I fecking hate bullshiiters it makes my pee boil  I sadly got dry bummed when buying my latest engine, obviously I wouldn't start stripping the engine infront of the guy and have only recently found out he lied.

Good work Burgo it's about time scrotes like this were shown up. The proof is all there to see.

burgo
13-08-09, 11:15 PM
well thats what make me laugh he says you should have checked it before we bought it. would he have seriously let us strip the engine there and then before we bought it!!!! no course bludy not.

and to then come on here and call me the scammer. not happy

Was it advertised as a "great engine", only for you to get home and realise it only had 4 cylinders? :(

Could you report this guy to trading standards?

mowgli
13-08-09, 11:33 PM
all this sales talk reminds me of when my brother went to buy a mk1 xr2 in about 1986 & let me tag along.... the haggling was going fine, ie: my bro had bid the bloke in the bollocks for it & he was so shocked that he said 'there's a £300 stereo in it', to which my bro replied 'well you'd better take the fokker out & knock me another £300 off then' we came home with it, minus the stereo....and paid a grand less than the bloke was expecting.

burgo
13-08-09, 11:40 PM
Could you report this guy to trading standards?yes i could. we still have that whole avenue to explore if need be.

mowgli
13-08-09, 11:47 PM
I think the best thing to do is put the cvh back together & sell it on ebay. then get it done how your mate wants it done. it will end up as a really decent car, even though its still a ford.

Southie
13-08-09, 11:48 PM
yes i could. we still have that whole avenue to explore if need be.
I'd go and report it tbh. All your going to get is excuses and more bull otherwise.

burgo
13-08-09, 11:49 PM
we've told him all we now want is the clutch he said we could have and as far as we are concerned its lessons learnt all round and water under the bridge. we just want to get on and build it properly and forget all this mess but james doesnt seem to want to let it lie even tho he doesnt have a leg to stand on and could end up getting his mates company into serious trouble

mowgli
13-08-09, 11:52 PM
time to walk away... a mondeo or late model escort 2000 clutch won't exactly break the bank

burgo
13-08-09, 11:55 PM
that wont take the power we want tho mowgli so a decent clutch will break the especially as nick is unemployed at the mo

mowgli
13-08-09, 11:59 PM
considering that some commercial vehicles & tractors use fibre clutches, i would think the mondeo one would be good for 200hp before needing a paddle type one....

burgo
14-08-09, 12:00 AM
depending on the cam it should see 250bhp

Southie
14-08-09, 12:02 AM
What paddle clutch is needed then? How much usually new?

burgo
14-08-09, 12:12 AM
I'd go and report it tbh. All your going to get is excuses and more bull otherwise.we dont wanna go that route tho as his business partner is sound as fook and we're not out to **** anyone over which reporting it and getting lawyers involved would do.

a decent clutch is about £250 but james says he has one in his garage which he has apparently posted to us

mowgli
14-08-09, 12:44 AM
meanwhile...... has anyone ever seen an exhaust that fitted a mk1 or mk2 fiesta properly??? they always look like a heating duct in a factory to me, just hanging down & following strange routes

Welsh Dan
14-08-09, 12:09 PM
Would a turbo derv clutch fit?

Ben
