View Full Version : Which gearbox will be best?

hi, im planning on building a 2.0 8v TURBO, using a T3/T4 Garett turbo. I have been reading up about it on Mk2 astra club and found it really helpfull, the only thing i not sure about is the gearbox side of it. I have heard that it will be best using an F20 box and also that their is 3 types of this box. My first question is:

What box will be best to use for 8v turbo conversion?
Is their 3 different F20's and if so why?

Is this a show car, a car your going to drag strip or bragging rights for pinks down the bypass?

Reason I ask is obviously depending on your need for speed you may want quicker acceleration or you may want a faster top end.

I suspect a F16 with a decent diff would be adequate.

i want it for acceleration so i can win races round the doors as you never get up to end speed. wouldent F16 get naffed running a T3/T4 Turbo?

Wouldn't have thought an F16 would handle the torque tbh. In my experience, Vauxhall gearboxes seem pretty weak when running at torque limits lol

thats what i thought aswell. so really im still asking the question

which gearbox is best for 2.0 8V TURBO? (if F20 which one?)

Just fit an F20, they all feel the same when driving.
