Ive searched the net and am getting quotes of £400 plus, To expensive i think for me atm.

i remember count vaux alot made some in 08 out of two sets of steels which is what i would like doing.

does anyone think they could do this cheaper or know of anyone who can? (ive pm'd count but no response yet)

Thanks in advance Jimbo

TBH i would be inclined to pay the money and get someone to do them. Last thing you want is a mis-welded steel. I'm sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction.

widewheels have all the stuff needed to make them, They do a grand job as well. I know its only steelies etc but thats what difference costs. Two sets came up for sale last year, check on the VW sites as there will be a few floating around. Modified arches are a must ;)

tram lines??

there only for my 1L daily driver. not going to be rallying it.

i wanted a set of sr steelys 7j just so there that little bit wider. and strech some tyres on it. oh and ordered my 100mm springs for it :)

i have never welded in my life so i wont even be attempting. just want to try them on the car :)

Tram lining is where the ar follows the road and steers on its own.

Look good, drives like sh*t. I'd do some again, but only for show wheels.

do they drive worse than leaving them 5j?

Welsh Dan

Yes, as the offset is thrown way out aswell.

How does it drive sh*t? i.e heavy, understeer, iv'e wanted some for a while but allways been under the impression that they drive bad?

i think maybe john was busy that night couldnt say much..
but i think keeping it no more than 7J might be better - john afaik went to 8J..?

that will never fit. you'll need arch work.

the are only widend to the outside, so the offset drops massivly

from a 5j to 7j you ad 2inch to the outside, so about 50mm... meaning an offset of about 0

here's pic from my rear arches. banded 14 inch sr steelies. these are astra mk2 wheels, so a standard 5,5j iirc. these are banded to 7.5j. fitted with 195-45-14. rear is on -80 but she's stripped out, so its a good-60 drop.

you can get a mk3 astra rim that looks very similar that is 6j14... it still drives fine..

Erm you'll get tramlining from the road, doesn't matter what wheels you have.
Its the car/tyres sitting the the worn in groves in the roads from trucks.

i have no problems. sure it steers different, but thats 3 corners and youre used to it. 7,5j et0 on a c20xe nova.

nova's are sensitive for tramlining, the car is just to narrow lol

It tramlined really bad, and didn't feel confident in cornering. Yeah mine were 8j. On the motorway it would lurch around as you changed lanes. Jimbo i can pass you the details of who did mine if needs be.

Mayhem, your roads are in much better condition than ourslol .
