Hey up guys.
New car, New Project :)

Bought it last weekend.
Vowed im not going to go mad on this one, but you know what its like ;)

Anyhow, first up, BIIIIG Detail - By hand!
Took my time with it, over 2 and 1/2 days :)

I dont have all the all singing all dancing equipment yet, but i did the best i could with what i had.

First i gave it a good rinse with the hose to get rid of as much dust and dirt as i could.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y293/Novastyla/Ren-Ho/100_0392.jpg

Then i washed it using a lambswool mit, single bucket with grit guard.
Dried using a megs water magnet drying towel.

While i was at it, i de-badged the rear, because i was getting fed up of catching the lettering with cloths!!! Hot water and a credit card FTW!

The paint isnt toooo bad, few minor scratches here and there, minor swirling too. Hopefully i can get these out with a machine polish, when i get it!

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y293/Novastyla/Ren-Ho/100_0398.jpg

After that, gave the whole car a good clay using Megs smooth surface kit.
Used the QD as lube.
Even on a black car i could see the tar all over it!
Just a quick pass on the bottom of the drivers door!!!
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y293/Novastyla/Ren-Ho/100_0418.jpg

Then over the next hours, used Stage 1 & 2 of the Megs 3 Stage system.
Finished it up with the Megs Gold Class Wax - 3 Coats in total.
Used the Megs applicator pads and Megs MF cloths to finish.
Pretty impressed with the results, some nice reflections and alot less minor scratches and swirls :)

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y293/Novastyla/Ren-Ho/100_0420.jpg
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y293/Novastyla/Ren-Ho/100_0421.jpg

Gave the wheels a good clean with Megs Quick Detailer and an old MF.
I find it shifts the dirt really well and leaves a nice finish :)
Also used a bit of Megs Tyre Shine Gel - Not much, just enough. I dont like glossy looking tyres!!
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y293/Novastyla/Ren-Ho/100_0431.jpg

Also clayed the glass work, and used Megs Glass Cleaner to make them gleam.
Gave the interior a reet good hoover and a wipe down with trim detailer.
And i attempted to attack the tailpipes with some AutoGlym Metal Polish.

Whats it like to drive???

Phenomonal!
Torque is a wonderful thing!
And i had forgotten just how good it is to drive with an LSD!!
I really cannot get this thing unstuck :)
It corners like its tied to the apex

Not too fussed about the <25mpg ave. either!

robertdevlin69
10-08-09, 12:42 PM
sounds good
25mpg is bad but its not the worst!
is it standard under the bonnet?

Stoo
10-08-09, 12:45 PM
Completely std!

However that 'STD' means
230bhp/230lbft
6spd box with LSD
4 pot Brembos
Recaros
Xenons....................

Nice! Looks very stealth in black.

Debadged rear end?? I thought they came with Renault F1 graphics...or is that the r26r only??

What do you intend to do with it? Apart form drive it hard??!!

Stoo
10-08-09, 01:12 PM
The R26 also came with graphics on the Bumpers, doors and roof.

Like this
http://www.insigniaworks.co.uk/ekmps/shops/insigniaworks/images/large-renault-megane-f1-team-r26-112.jpg
However they were a factory delete option, and IMO makes it look even beeter. More Stealthy and Understated :)

I removed the MEGANE badge and the RENAULT SPORT badges.

Plans are not very plenty at the moment.
However, future plans are to include

Uprated panel filter
BOV
Bigger Front Mount Intercooler
Bigger injectors
De-Cat + Less restrictive exhaust
Stage 3 Remap (300bhp/350lbft)

Powdercoat wheels Red
Coilovers
Uprated pads/brake fluid

CARBON bits!! (Front and Rear Diamonds, Mirror Caps, Rear spoiler .....)

Pistol Pete
10-08-09, 01:16 PM
Ah, i see. Thats the graphics i was thinking of.

Sound like some good plans...i look forward to the updates.

I think i did an OK job of making a megane look good, but as Simon said, its only standard! But VERY Clean. Needs another clean now cos its dusty :)

Martin, cheers bud, but i wanna do it all myself. Im loathed to pay £200+ a time for it to be proffessionally detailed with machine polish/paint correction etc when i can spend £200 on my own machine polisher and teach myself and use it over and over. Plus i can do friends cars for alittle bit of cash!

Sean- For sure mate. This ones Turbo too ;)

Cheers for all the comments gang, can you believe i let the misses take it to work today :):)

Looking great, Allways liked the Renault sport series, in every capacity.

A friends brother has a white R26R... Loooks amazing !

Pah, Machine polish !? Just use a bit of muscle

Muscle only gets you so far dude!

Getting out swirls and deeper scratches can only be done with a machine IMHO

Well, after a 'fair few' high performance cars, and many of them FWD with LSD

I have to say -

Fukk me this thing has got some grip!!!!

Jeeesus!
I have been out this eve and attacked my favourite part of the airfield where i work, the taxiway is like any track i've driven on!

Lets just say i was able to carry much more speed than i ever have been able to thru the twistiy bits :)
Alot more confidence inspiring than i ever gave it credit for!!

So impressed with it, and its still factory OEM at the moment!

I also had a go down my favourite low-speed/high intensity road on the way home and the diff made it a sublime journey. Such poise and balance, point and shoot, epic grip.

I'm going to enjoy this car!

Looks spot on Stoo, you've done a fine job :)

I've always fancied one of these when I've had enough of the vRS, heard many rave reviews on the handling/performance and personally think they look awesome, especially in black.

Keep it up :thumb:

Thats why he's polished it so much I think, when he ends up sliding down the road on the roof it should hopefully reduce scratching :)

Does look nice Stoo. Thats as nice as i can get about it though. You know me, I have an unjustified hatred of french cars to uphold lol

Pete, I was WELL within the limit when i Off'd my teg.

Road conditions, camber, bad luck all contributed to the accident, but speed wasn't anything to do with it.

Lee, Cheers for the comments :)
The colour matches your blinkers :):)

Stoo

My head is being sensible.
Like I should be. Mountain bike, looking to get a dog, kids in the future, MPG etc

So, my head says 2006-2008 shape Audi A4 TDi 170 S-Line Avant

BUT I went to have the meg rubbered today at my mates garage (TGM _ Honda Specialist) and completely fell head over heels for a DC5 again!!

Mike
07-09-10, 09:06 PM
Ooooooooohhhh, the Audi's well nice though, but the DC5 is too. Both of them are tidy as foook motors tbh, tough decision that!

Stoo
07-09-10, 09:12 PM
The Audi will cost more. BUT is more economical, just as fast real world really too. (170bhp/250+lbs ft std. Rempa would take it to c.200bhp/350lbs ft!!) Nicer place to be, all the toys, Audi build quality, relaibility.....

I'm talking my way out of a DC5 again, probably for the best.
