I knew the bottom end had done on my old C14SE, but ive never done any bottom end work so not sure how bad this is?

Alos the engines been sat for some years and the bores have rusted, should I just hone them? or will they need more work?
depends how deep the rust is. Try a hone, if that dosent work then its rebore time (or throw it away and buy a decent nick 2nd hand lump if you dont care much)
Were the shells ontop of each other, or opposite to make a circle?

well now you say it, i think they were on top of each other, i thought they might have slipped that way as I undone them.
hard to get them to seperate? if so then thats a spun bearing.... crank regrind and oversize bearings. Upto you if you care enough to get that done, or simply chuck another 1400 bottom end in

No it all came apart quite easy.
I think il just sell the head and scrap the block as i was only doing it cuz i was bored and i had just cleared my rented garage out and that was the last thing to come home.
