So as title Say's I'm getting sick of my daily car and want to change, i noticed the Mk4 Astra's are quite dam cheep and have top spec, low miles etc etc.

So i know Riggy has the 2.2, and Nick J had a GSi/SRi?

Anyone els got one of these? If so need some first hand advise on any pro's cons etc

As said I'm no too fussy, quite like the idea of a Bertone CC, or SRi 2.0 (turbo if lucky, lol) 2.2 or GSi turbo's can be bought for good money.

So can anyone shed some light? :)

well my mate had a 1.8 Sri and the the rev's would rev then drop over and over. (we cleaned the throttle body butterfly and that seemed to cure it.

My old man as a 1.7 td van and that has had endless electrical problems which vauxhall sort then after a week there back. something about the dash lights pulse.

Get a GSI you know you want to

Your right i do! lol

But it seams that the SRi 2.0 and 2.2's are just as good for allot less dosh!
(OK not as powerful, nor quick,or equipped, but you get what I'm saying)

Very nice car, lovely interior, couldn't think of a better daily driver. Feels well built compared to previous astras.

Mine was a nice car but had the c20let motor in so I cant really comment regarding the engines in them. But Id say there a comfortable/affordable daily runner with good boot space too. As all vauxhalls they do seem to go on the back arches but apart from that I dont think there a bad car for tin worm.

One I had........

Mine was an sri I bought it for £2300. One respray later and it sold for £3750 and I got a corsa diesel px'd worth a few hundred too! I did well out of that car :) I think you'll find a good genuine (z20let) car for £3500 fella.

scott scott scott....

They are slow slow slow matey, and with the way fuel is, you would be better off with a Vectra 1.9CDTI, They are around the 3500-4k mark now.

The 1.7cdti engines in the astra range are good but i would opt for a 1.9cdti, They are plenty powerful, give a good pull and a brill MPG.

I'm not looking for MEGA fast dude, just looking at a nice looking car with all mod cons (that work!) and as I'm not doing huge miles now i wouldn't be bothered about it not being Diesel, and the price of fuel's are the same round here etc, so was thinking of a nice'ish MK4, have been looking at the Vectra's and the 01-04 range don't have the 1.9 CDTi in/under my £4k budget, so I'm stuffed!

Also, I'm sick of looking like an old fart in a big barge! lol

Yeah OK I'll be 29 at end of the month, but still...

Pmsl, if petrol isnt a problem get the Turbo astra. But if your going turbo i can think of loads of other things for around £4500

Im not too keen on the interiors on them myself this depends on what your last car is/was.

If you get an SRI tub, give me a shout. I would like to see how they go around corners lol.

Iv just sold my daily driver which was a mk4 gsi. I would highly recomened a gsi to anyone. Great to drive slow or fast, excellent handeling and great interior.
I did hav a few mods tho, Vxr turbo, miltek, fmic and stage 1.
But could still get 40mpg on a long run WITHOUT bootng it tho.
If was looking for another I won't go for to high miles tho as standard turbo don't last long even if well looked after.

I sold mine for £4200.

IF, i say IF i get it for the right price i might keep it, and then give it the missis to drive once she ready for the 1.2L power! lol

Watch this space...

Just for info.

Your better off with the 1.8 engine over the 2.0.

It's geared differently, so the 1.8 has a quicker 0-60 time, lower insurance, but has a lower top speed.

Sits to see what happens about the Nova.

re 1.8 & 2.0 comments.

Gimme the taller gearing of the 2.0L anyday, esp if its for a daily.

Rather dull & overpriced IMO compared with other cars in that price bracket. Not to mention expensive to maintain. Z20LET = moneypit.

Awesome cars Mk4 astras are IMO
And cheap as fook nowadays.

Can pickup 2.2 Coupes for about 2-2.5k, and they can look stunning with a few mods. Very nice cars.

I've got a 1.8 sri as the 'family' (was 2nd fun car before) car. Its a great car, handles amazingly for an off the shelf product from GM (I have almost as much fun point to point in it as I do in the VX). I jumped in for the first time and said "ohh this isnt that fast... oh hang on we are already doing 80, WIN"

The only two let downs for the 1.8 are, the throttle is so ehavily damped that when you try for a bit of lift off oversteer it never happens :( and it LOVES fuel 35mpg MAX on a lucky day which imho is toss.

I think the 2.0 would be a nice middle ground of torque vs fuel vs speed etc
the 2.2 only seems to be a fantastic engine in something that weighs less than a Ton
