Long story short, some berk hit me on the M27 in the fast lane..... We stopped, he give me his details & we went on our way, I popped to a mates bodyshop to get a full insurance quote and a 2nd hand bumper & backhander paint quote, both were kinda higher then I though
Insurance nigh on £700 incl VAT
Backhander £25 + VAT for bumper & £150 cash for paint
great, so insurance company it is, now Ive been told that I should make sure he calls his insurance company & speak to the 3rd party claims dept, thus cutting my insurance company out the middle and meaning ii dont pay my HUGE excess. However in order to do this he has to report the accident to his insurance company. Just called him to find out if he was going to do thus & his phone is off, text him to let him know the body was ok (just scuffed) but the bumper was ronnied and needs to be changed. I have delivery reports that let me know when the message has been delivered and its not got there so far.
My current plan is to wait till tomorrow lunch time, try ringing him again if his phone is STILL off then sending another text, if i dont hear anything by tomorrow afternoon call police as a hit n run............ good idea/bad idea??
HELP!!

Contact your insurance asap. Don't say it's a hit and run to the police because if he's passed your details on then your going to look guilty.
If you've done nothing wrong then you'll be okay. Sadly you'll have to pay the excess but that's part of having insurance.
Get three or four quotes for repairs from garages as insurance companies will need them.
You dont have to make a claim you know just because you call them. Just bloody call them and get it on record. If he hasnt got insurance like you say he will have to pay for it though the court!

£150 for paint!? Not much of "mate" is he lol
Just get any astra back bumper from the scrappy and rattle can it!
You really should have reported ANY accident - as leaving the scene leaves you liable to prosecution as well.
Contact your insurance. Tell them you've been hit, the other guy has admitted fault, pass on the details (his name, insurance company, reg number etc). You then have 3 options:
1. Use your insurance to cover the repairs. This means you pay your excess, your company pay out for the repairs, then seek to recover the cost from the other guy's company (when they do, you get your excess refunded). Advantage, its quick and simple, and we all know how good insurance companies are at recovering money they're owed! Disadvantage, you temporarily lose your NCB and if you have a high excess could be expensive.
2. Use his insurance to cover the repairs. Your insurance company chases his and they pay out. Advantages, your excess stay intact, you pay nothing. Disadvantage its a much longer process as his insurance company has to agree to pay out - plus, if he argues the toss you could end up with a 50/50 claim (any witnesses?)
3. Settle the claim privately. Either you chase him (or his insurance company, you're entitled to - but they do drag their heels when dealing with Joe Public) or you pay out of your own pocket and write the damage off. Advantages are this leaves your excess intact and you bypass your insurance. Disadvantage is its a lot of hassle for you, and possibly a short term cost implication.
If your that worried go thru a 3party compney.
You'll get a loan car no matter what and they do all the fighting and work.

Well I have just spoken to him, he is a trader and sending me money to get the bumper sorted out........ once thats done he is painting it and im not sure yet if he is getting it put on or im going to put it on (not bothered but the decent thing would be that he gets it done)
I left the scene after he did RJ and that was after I had teken his details and joycey i know the quote is steep but for the job his guys do its bloody worth it!! also I have done rattle can work myself & it always turns out SHAT so ill let his guy do it for me lol

sorry to say it but, to be honest your funked, if he has no insurance you will get nothing as the police were not called to the scene they will do nothing. Ive been in the same situation my self your insurance could chase him but if he chooses to ignore them you will get nothing as said before.

Well Like the post above says he is supposidly a trader & he is sorting the bumper out............... he give me insurance details (of sorts) whilst i was there so there was no reason to call the police at the scene. If the cheque hasnt landed by Wednesday ill call him & double check that he has sent it, if its not there by Friday ill say that ill come collect a replacment cheque for it or ask him to pay by debit card, otherwise ill call the insurance company and get them to sort it out. I will get the details of his insurance company & make sure that he reports it so that i dont have to fart about with mine. Id prefer to do it that way as I dont have the money for the excess at the moment. But either way I wanting it sorted out ASAP so once the money is in my account ill go pick the bumper up & get it to him try to get it back in 48 hours or so.
