iv just got a corsa with a astra 1600 engine and a ford rs turbo turbo on it
anyway the exhaust smokes after every gear change it does not smoke on idle it has a slow stuttery acceleration so was wondering if anyone knows what it could be? i know my fuel pressure reg is broke and iv got no lambda sensor so im keeping fingers crossed its just that but im doubtful so any ideas welcome thanx:thumb:
you are even driving it with those problems??
Oh dear.
With a 'broke' regulator you are asking for problems, its probably running lean and melted ALL the pistons.

no really get rid and get a nova lol sounds like the corsa has no idea what car its ment to be god knows what else is wrong and been changed for random parts off other cars laying about, does it have 3 stud saxo wheels on 5 stud vectra parts on it as well

ok thanx for the sarcy comments!!!!!! no matter what car i have u all take the piss??? well anyway NO im not driving it around and the pistons are fine iv been told the seals in my turbo are gone so getting it re conned the engine seems fine getting it checked monday tho just to make sure before i have the turbo done
Spluttering is gonna be caused by incorrect fuelling, cant possibly expect it to drive right with dodgey reg and no lambda. If its supposed to have a lambda it will never drive right without one.

ok found out today its a power boost reg valve so not a standard reg iv ordered another one today and as for the lambda there is no loom for one so do i need one?????

If it's running standard 1600 management it will be struggling to keep up with the engine when booting it. It won't be able to deliver the correct amount of fuel and cause serious problems. My mate had a 1600 8V turbo and it would stutter if you booted it, you had to gradually build up the power.

No, ideally you need aftermarket management.
scrap it lol

sorry mike didn't know i had to lick every ones backside but im only saying what a lot are thinking, the lad doesn't even know what aftermarket means and from sounds of it been sold a misfit bake.
if this was me and someone gave me advice of get rid and get something he could manage/understand and sort out easily if anything goes wrong then i would thank them lol

theres a few 1.6 turbos running standard managment. get a decent FPR and see gow you go.
indeed it sounds like its been bodged a bit, and the lad sounds a bit "noobish", no disrespect. you need to sort your fueling mate, as this is causing the stutter, and it will melt pistons if its lean, or burn the valves if its rich. what do your sparkplugs look like when you remove them? what colour? oily? plugs are an excellent indicator of an engines issues. also what make etc?

ok sorry to much sun today lol but my 1st post i still stick by personally but if i can help then i will but there is no mention of why there is a rs turbo on a 1600 astra engine in a corsa ? just seems a bit odd if we are honest. i cant see any benifits of this other than been more work to sort it than its worth,
as for text typing i was not jumping on her was just saying its a PNG hate but im not to bothered as long as i can read what it says lol but there are people on here who but rape people on there 1st post.
and sorry let i did not know you was on the pull carry on :thumb:
let_nova
09-08-09, 10:19 PM
on the pull WTF im trying to help. the RS turbo is known to be used a lot when converting the 1.6 to turbo.
you realy should gen up more.
novajulz
09-08-09, 10:24 PM
thats ok keith well i dont know if it is an ford rs turbo on it thats what the boy said to me so i will have to look at the model number and trace it to see what make it is.
its the usual case of a little knowledge is bad, no knowledge is worse.
right, diagnostics.
does it smoke on the overrun? i.e when you boot it and let off the throttle?
or is it only under load? or at idle? warm or cold?
novajulz
09-08-09, 10:30 PM
when i boot it and let off the throttle n when i change gear. driving the car its like driving a normal 1.6
sounds like an epicly shagged turbo. OR you are really unlucky and have screwed rings and stem seals too.
hence why i asked when it smokes.
novajulz
09-08-09, 10:45 PM
oh ok when after taken it for a drive i looked under bonnet the turbo was smoking with clear smok and very HOT.
let_nova
09-08-09, 10:47 PM
under the bonnet??? was the road wet during the run?? turbos do get very hot...
calibra-keith
09-08-09, 10:49 PM
is there any play in turbo or have you got or able to do compression test ?
id say turbo myself, its prob a t2. if it continues your looking at rings etc.
novajulz
09-08-09, 11:00 PM
The turbo was bloody hot couldnt touch it but i did n burnt my finger lol. it was on a nice day LET.
a turbo is filled with hot exhaust gases, hence the heat. its designed that way. like all of your engine it gets hot.

how much for a second hand turbo guys?
let_nova
09-08-09, 11:04 PM
ebay is your friend.
turbos run red hot. sometimes nearly white
novajulz
09-08-09, 11:04 PM

let_nova
09-08-09, 11:09 PM

ok cool thanks so its the seals then is it?
novajulz
09-08-09, 11:13 PM
bloody hell let no way never seen that before lol thats HOT HOT.
not 100%. given that the conversion would have used a 2nd hand turbo, that is hugely likely to be the problem, especially with the fuelling probably all to pot meaning it would have run far far far far far hotter than it should have.
calibra-keith

how much for a second hand turbo guys?
iv got a t15 with mani, used on vw's, vauxhall and fords petrols and diesels many people use these rather than the t2 on 1400/1600 depending on set up and what you trying to achieve.
novajulz
10-08-09, 12:03 AM
im trying to achieve my car being fixed!!! was just wondering if it would be cheaper for me to get another turbo instead of getting mine refurbed?? as for the set up im not the first to have this engine so whats all the fuss about???
if the fuelling is wrong, then it could have contributed to killing the turbo quicker than it should have!
imho I'd spend the extra and get the current one refurbed as atleast you KNOW its going to be as good as possible whereas a 2nd hand one will just be another unknown and could be equally as funked
novajulz
10-08-09, 01:48 PM
ok will get the turbo refurbed if the engine is ok.
LiquidPug
10-08-09, 02:06 PM
Would it not be a good ides to get the engine checked over first? If the pistons/rings/valve seals are fubar, what's the point of shelling out good money to refurb the turbo - you need to know when to cut your losses. ;)
novajulz
10-08-09, 02:11 PM
yeah true will get the engine checked out one day this week ,hopefully its ok fingers crossed then if its ok il get the turbo done.
