ive got a new head unit a pair of 6x9 and 1220w sub wot size amp would i need to runn all this. and how do i wire it all up?
thanks for your help
shane.
if that is your subs rms voltage then it would best to amp it to that.
however u couldnt run 6x9's from that amp or u'll blow them.
so u'll need to get 2 amps.
find out the rms of your sub and 6x9's and buy the best amp/s you can afford.
You WONT need 2 amps neccessarly
Im presuming that the sub is in PEAK power, so it should be around 600W RMS.
so......
You will probably need a 600/700 Watt RMS Amp with 4 channels which you can bridge 2 channels to run the sub and use the other 2 for the 6x9s!
They are often expensive though.
So to be honest your best bet is to power the 6x9s off of the headunit as it will most likely offer enough power and you are best off letting the sub carry the bass work!
Then just buy a 500/600W RMS amp, a 2 channel one will do which you can bridge into 1!
A good cheap example is the Pioneer GMX 962 I think it is! It is rated at 760Watts Peak but is 500Watts RMS, this will be fine for your sub! It only costs ?115 from MCS Direct!
Dont buy an amp with a power rating in RMS that does not match your sub, otherwise it will sound crap!
Any more info needed let me know or someone else will correct me or say what they think!

the 6x9 are kenwood 220w!i aint actually got the headunit wot head unit one you recomend so i get good sound thanks for help.
I got them kfc6908's! Amazin 6x9's top quality - as quoted by revs too!
N e way, Im running them off of a pioneer headunit outputing 50watts per channel which is just over 25watts rms! This isnt enough as the speakers have a 60watt rms rating!
However, it sounds ok and if you planning on getting a sub, your best option in the mean time may be to run the 6x9's off of a decent headunit with atleast a 45watt per channel output! Then a sub and use a high pass filter on the 6x9's so they do none of the bass work! THEN buy an amp for the 6x9's if you wish!
If you lost, PM me and i will write in more detail!
