i want to start a project but im not to sure about what type of nova is the best to convert or whether it doesn't matter?
also where is the best place to get hold of a calibra engine? and how much is it all going to cost me to have it put in?

you get the bits and for a relatively tiny fee ste would probably fit it for you and set it up...
Probably...

would it be best if i tried to get hold of a calibra that had been rear-ended and strip it for parts? or should i try and get hold of a re-con engine and box? do you know of any places to try and and get hold of car/engine?
local scrappys don't seem to have calibra's with running engines.
Keep checking the Parts for sale forum. I'm sure an engine will turn up eventually.

1 litre or 1.2 shell. if you get on the phone to liverpool victoria or herts insurance consultants (HIC) and tell them ur plans, then you'll know whether you'll be able to get a decent qoute and carry on with the conversion. not sure bout HIC, but liv vic base the qoute on the engine size of the original shell, hence why 1 litre or 1.2 is the best model to look for. but minters are hard to come by too often, so you may have to do a bit of looking. the 2 litre redtop engine ur after coulkd come from astra gte 16v, cavalier gsi 2000,astra gsi, some late cav sri's(rareity). earlier redtops had coscast heads, and are, i believe, non-porous, whereas SOME later ones suffered porosity problems. justlook out in your local yellow freeads in cars breaking/salvage etc-there's loads of them about.
these may sound like stupid questions, but the only time i've got near a valver is when there were traffic lights outside the house of possibly the only person for miles thats got one where i live.
why are omega pistons better?
what marks on the engine will identify whether or not its a coscast head?
my current project is doin up a 1600 8valve engine, but a valver may be something i consider in a year or two. think i'm gonna have a closer look at this valver near me. it looks like a gte thats been lowered and got calibra wheels on, no fancy body mods. which is what i like. think its a 16valve turbo engine from the same calibra the wheels were off.

fantastic, cheers mate. anyone got any ideas on the benefits of omega pistons? i'm assuming its a compression issue

each shell has it's advantages
gsi/sri/gte/td/d = stronger shell
sri/1.2i/1.4spi = wiring hassle
carb cars = tank and pump hassle
gsi/gte are better with astra engine wiring
carb cars are better with cav engine wiring
1.2i/1.4spi have tidy intank fuel pump and copper lined plastic fuel lines
take ur pick
i've got a 1.2i shell with a mk2 1.4sr wiring loom with a cav engine loom and astra water system
