I'm breaking a Vectra with one of these engines, its got a fooked HG. Is it worth keeping, can any parts be donated to the 14 and 16 16v small blocks with sucess or should I just dump it?

id be changing the HG and fitting that instead of a 1.4/1.6


failing that if your gonna just dump it ill take it off your hands ;)

if you mean the x14xe and c/x16xe then no: only the ancilleries (sp?) starter, alt and gearbox n that will fit - otherwise engine parts themselves are not interchangable.. you need z14xe, z16xe/r etc for engine parts to be interchangeable..?

Is the Vectra an X18XE1 engine?? If so keep the ECU, transponder and key chips. Fetch £200+ on ebay as they are common to faults. I had to replace mine. Also, throttle bodies clog up and need replacing, £300 from Vauxhall.

Draper, is it just the larger capasity thats the benifit?

Pete, it is but amoung other faults, the EUC, Key chip and Transponder have failed. It wont run any longer than 3 seconds and even then the Head Gasket Failure is very apparent. Its possible that theres a bottom end knock as well, but its difficult to tell as it runs for no length of time.

Are the injectors or anything else worth pilfering for my X14/16XEs? I gave the exhaust manifold a brief inspection and it has no SAI/EGR etc valve holes in it, so pending it lining up with the X14/16XE heads, its being kept.

EGR IIRC mounts on the side of the head. TBH, not sure about injectors or manifolds. Maybe stick a post on www.vvoc.com (http://www.vvoc.com)?

manifold no, im afraid to say.
only starter and alternator maybe injectors, but rest is all quite different..

as said; its the z14,z16 not x's..
