hi all i am just going to tell you my story so far!

here it goes, when i was 14 i had my first proper road experience in a Td nova, it was my grandads five door. i was just amazed how fast it were for what it was!

i knew from this day on i had to have one!,.

... aged 16 i found a nice sx td, standard apart from the pink body work, bought it, stuck a starter on her and doubled my money1

aged 17, its now 2008, ive just passed my car test and wanted only one car, that being as am sure you could work out a NOVA! by this time nova had died out just about, i struggled to find any localy. then i had a strike of luck. my grandad gave me his moor door td, at first it were a nail and i didnt want to keep it but then i drove her and fell in love,... sadly 3 months down the line i spun in some ice, hit a ditch and tiped it over!

i have never been so upset, was like losing my grandad him self, i was pi$$ed off with my self for killing a nova and new i had to get a new one!

any way after 5 months of searching i found one, it was a 7 hour round trip to get it and it nearly wanted rebuilding but it was honnest and genuine, unlike the other tds.

the car needed:-
doors
respray
back axle
front brakes
back sill
the odd plate on the chassis rails
a spring
lock set
and a lot of other bits to get it to how i want it

you may think am silly for getting it but tds are so rare now and being a l reg with bilstein shocks puts the toping on the cake for me!

any way i will pop up some pics now

Cool. It's a shame you have erased the SX's defining features though. The seat cloth, the external badges & grey bumpers etc.

TD's do rock though. Easily Sr quick.

Balley
03-08-09, 10:08 PM
they were easy to make, got some fake leather, and swade, sitched together and glued around the originals:D
thanks dude

You did kinda ruin it it by De-SXing it. Would look so much better with Grey bumpers as well, but the rest looks well.

it had metalic grey bumpers, didnt like them, so it sprayed them with white primer, i just need to do them gloss and add the red pin stripe

i am going to get some more sx badges as i only managed to save one when i tuck them off (that is now on the tail gate)

thanks any way

I have done a bit since my last post so I thought I would pop some pictures up :]

Got some 15 astra/vectra steelies and painted them up like so!
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/28082009616.jpg

Fitted them and I also painted the bumpers metalic grey and added a nice 12mm pin stripe which I think sets it off :D

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/15092009664.jpg

I bought some rear surrounds, painted them in satin black and fitted them, while I had the glass out i also removed the window tint!

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/14112009028.jpg

Fitted a new lock set finally (Y), I have no picture but am sure no one cares

Fitted the standard air box and exhaust system to (Y)

I got given some brand new astra levers/switches so thought I would pop them on !

Looking much better now, i really like that

Thank you very much, I am very pleased with it!

I remember the night me and my step dad towed it home, he just kept staring at me as if to say what a shed! lol

Then to make matters worse my sister came out to look at it and said 'You sold your corsa to by that pile of sh!t'

But now my step dad has admited to actually likeing it, and my sister says she likes the seats (which is good coming from her as she thinks Novas are the ultimate Chav wagon!)

I JUST NEED A GEAR LINKAGE NOW !!!

I have 21 psi now (only when I want it though), when I fitted my need clutch I wound the pump up a bit more and welded up the boost valve, Oppps

Much quicker now, when I 1.7 it i will do the white ring mod at the same time, would be nice to see 120bhp out of her!

Diesel power is cool. Have a 5299cc inline four diesel myself and it's great fun - when it runs, that is. ;)
Like the steelies, very different. You'll have wonderful times keeping them clean hehe! Was the Calibra interior any easy to fit?

Balley
26-11-09, 10:12 AM
They are a ******* to keep clean lol!

Simple answer is no, the front seats require a bracket welding on the sr subframes, and the back requires unpicking the foam and leather then raping around the nova bases, for the bottom bench you need to take the calibra item and cut a bit off it eaither side then hook the leather back on the foam, they go in but the bottom base is a tight fit, it is to big to be able to lift it up, and I have just straped mine down!

Does look good when fitted, but if you often use your back seat I would not bother as you also loose a lot of foot space! But if your like me When i do have anyone in the back it will be my young nieces and they always say how compfy it is lol!

Ive got a roof ariel off a MK4 Polo, should i fit in the roof at the front or at the back near the tail gate?? am un sure?

I have also started to adapt the rear quaters to hold some 6x9s(basically I have cut the armrest bit out, going to stick a piece of hard board on top with a 6x9 hole in it and then recover in the same material as my door cards) rather than ruin my parcel self! I will add some more photos shortly!

Should look good when done and be a bit different!

gary_126

As for the ariel, on the roof at the rear (like a corsa b)

speaker mounting idea sounds good

Balley
30-11-09, 09:30 PM
Ok bud, I was just a bit unsure!

Yeah i will get some photos up tomorro hopefully!

Where can i mount my front 5.25 inch speakers, I was thinking of making some little boxes under the dash but i dont know, may be under the seats??

Does not have to sound perfect, just nice

Here is some pictures of my rear panels.

Arm rest cut out.

Template made out ofcard board.

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/01122009144.jpg

MDF sheet cut to size using the template, then glue guned and rivited onto the panel.

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/01122009145.jpg

Covered in foam around the top, Notice the new arm rest bit I have made at the top!

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/02122009174.jpg
Covered in felt like my front door cards!
The top edge/arm rest is made to look similar to the Gte/Gsi door capping I have on the front!
I just need to cut the holes for the 6x9s now!!

What do you think??

My doors were the worse I have seen, they looked ok but the bottom 16inch was not connected to the frame as the frame had completly rotted out, I would say this shell has been badly looked after, the interior was terrible! Theres still slashes in the roof lining and also the car was nicked just before I got it so its had a bad life!

Well I took my wheel off yesterday, looked at th inner arch and noticed a crack!
I thought to myself how the hell has it cracked there?? So I had a play with a screw driver and the hole thing feel on the fall, this was not good!!!

Some Tosser had fibreglassed over the hole thing and I now had a hole which was a L shaped and about 6inchs wide at the top and 2 inchs at the bottom :[

So I thought **** it, I will get the job done right while am off work!, so off come the Grill, Bumper, Indicator, Wing, Airbox, Carpet, Seat and Door trim !

Out come the 3 grinders, 1, Cutting disc. 2, Wire Wheel. 3, Flap disk!!

I ground back all the underseal and paint etc and found a hole in the headlight surround and the thing the wing bolts to at the top (Some one please Pm me the name lol).
The hole in that thing was about 4x5 inch round, it wasn't a hole to start with but it was very thin so fell apart with the wire wheel touching it!! :D

I welded these areas first and then called it Monday :D

I woke up this morning, had breakfast and the cracked on :D

Started plating the top of the arch first, did this with one big plate
Then I cut out another plate for the lower part, and welded that on

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/08122009200.jpg

Folded the edge over for strenght

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/08122009212.jpg

So all of that arch is now done :D I quickly gave the hole thing a coat of red oxide

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/08122009213.jpg

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/08122009215.jpg

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/08122009219.jpg

Now that was Tuesday, slow work but am loving it and its so much stronger now and I feel safe in the fact that that corner is fine!!
Tomorrow I shall plate the front panel and make a splash guard for the other side!, luckly the other side arch was welded by me so I know all it needs is a splash guard and a good coat of paint :]

Not bad work for an 18 year old is it :P

**** THE BED!

Nasty surprise mate.

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/07122009191.jpg

Inner wing is what you are on about, and as for the front slam/cross where the light goes, in that pic it also looks to be covered in fiberglass (the black area) so im guessing you might need a new front end?

Scott

Balley
08-12-09, 06:57 PM
Thanks fot that, I ground all that balck area down and it has just had a plate and been covered in underseal, Its still strong though and looks nice now!

My problem is you can't get new Td front ends!! the Cross member and slam panel is very strong any way so I shouldnt worry!

scott.parker
08-12-09, 07:06 PM
Not sure if im right in saying this, BUT all mk2 nova Front panels will be the same no?

But then we had a small error on my behalf.... yeah I forgot to lift the carpet on that side and yeah it caught fire and yeah I SHAT MY ****IN PANTs!
Got the fire extinguisher out the shed, pulled the pin and let rip!
When I tryed to stop the powder coming out it wasn't having it, so I spat the entire can across the drive and mainly in the Nova... This is not good!
Now my carpet has an inch on powder on it!!! Reason for it not stopping is because its designed not to stop, ******* I thought :[

On the o/s front panel but under the headlight, you'll need to cut a hole for the headlight clip.

Balley

I know mate, I dont know how to do it though, I thought I could drill a slightly oversized hole! What do you think??

Yeah, plan is to pop the engine out, plate the bay up nicely, seam it, red oxide it and spray it white !

Clean and paint everything on the front end and drop a 1.7TD in!

While am doing all that I would paint all the back end white as well :D

Might do this in June when I have just over a week off :D

Thats the exterior... as you all know my interior was a mess after my mishap so I have stripped it all out to clean up...

Took my carpet out, clean it and then sprayed it black (a brilliant trick of the trade is this). They come out perfect, feel smooth and doesn't come off as it stains th fabric :D

Hello guys, today I have finally started working on the Nova again! Plans are to respray the wings, bonnet and bumpers (as am not happy with the finish!)
Clean the interior again, mount the front speakers some where??!

Paint my Fanblades and fit!

Tidy up the very messy engine bay (might drop a 1.7 in some time this year also)

Fully underseal again, repaint inner arches white again, paint calipers and drums and paint suspension!

Fit some better rear shocks and spring (mine are bottoming out :/)

And then clean and polish everything!

Want to be done for PV10 ! Any way must crack on (sanding the wheels atm)

Comments welcome, Dan

Well I have been a busy boy this weekend..

Firstly I primered the Fan Blades....

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/DSC00500.jpg

I then set to wiring in an Amp....

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/DSC00505.jpg

Sorted all the wiring first, then I made an MDF boot floor to clamp it to,

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/DSC00517.jpg

Carpeted (all materials were out of a skip btw (Y) )

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/DSC00518.jpg
Sounds pretty sweet now so very happy with that (cheers Lewis for the amp) ...

Any way today I set about fitting my gear linkage,... after much trouble it was finally fitted (feels much better now) When removing the linkage I decided to gain better acsess by removing the inlet and oil filter .

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/DSC00521.jpg

I then decided to cut the manifold to bits and make a nice cool looking thing :D

remove that valve, it wont let it boost more then 17psi lol

Balley
25-04-10, 08:41 PM
Ive welded it up mate, dont you worry,.. she was at 21psi before i removed the ring so I would say she will fly now :D

Lewis.
25-04-10, 09:37 PM
top work mate, done a hell of a lot more than me today lol wheels are lookin good, and i'm loving that manifold! but you should have polished it though :d
and the red boost pipe? instant 20bhp lol

no worries about the amp, cheers for helping me take my gearbox out :thumb: amp looks good there too, are you routing the power cables under the new floor?

cant wait to go in it now with the white ring mod done :d you put a K&N back on it for the turbo whistle yet?
wont let me rep you again :( lol

Balley
25-04-10, 09:43 PM
Yeah I might actually, I raised the floor 3 inchs to allow me to put tool under it, there hard to get out but sould not really need to use then any way.

No need to make some sort of inlet pipe up for a cone filter + I want to give the bay a getto paint with engine it :thumb:

I think I will have to turn the fuel screw back down now as its going to smoke like **** on boost now, trial spin next saterday I think !

Lewis.
25-04-10, 09:48 PM
will make it look neater and they wont get snagged on stuff either.
get a silicone hose from roose tomorrow for the filter :thumb: ghetto paintjobs FTW lol grease what ever doesnt want painting and spray away :)

nah, smoke is good, get the side pipe on and then soot up some pedestrians lol

Lewis.
25-04-10, 09:51 PM
oh, and the test drive had better come via my house!

Balley
25-04-10, 09:56 PM
lol

I would but i think it will be dear as the pipe goes from around 30mm inlet to 60 and needs lots of bends, Ive got a bit in mind which should do the job and is free, remember everything is on a budget lol

Lewis.
25-04-10, 10:06 PM
fair dos. i suppose the red boost pipe just made me think you would join the silicone hose brigade lol

have you got any pics of it all together yet or are you still waiting for stuff to dry?

good work mate the fan blades look good!! oh and didnt notice that your from lincoln at first my missis lives there so if im ever down your way in the nova ill give you a shout i rarely use though lol so cant say when but if i come through in it would have to have a looksy at each others cars!!

whys the inlet tube need loads of bends and a size change? Can you not just throw a filter on the turbo?

scott.parker
25-04-10, 10:46 PM
Right, confused??
What is ti you have done to the inlet, and why?

MK999
25-04-10, 10:49 PM
that top half is like some sort of air collector/top mounted air filter bollocks and serves no purpose besides heating up the intake scott, so he's chopped it off instead of just leaving the top off of it like most people do.

Balley
26-04-10, 07:55 AM

Can get one in really, and as i said it woulde be tiny (bike sized K&N) so I need to extend a little and make it wider

Balley
26-04-10, 08:00 AM
Right, confused??
What is ti you have done to the inlet, and why?

Right the inlet is split (one side boost and one side suck) the air filter is built into the top half,... so the air flow goes through the filter into turbo and back into the inlet.

1, makes intake temp warmer when its not cut down
2 looks good
3 If you have a K&N on the turbo you can see all the airbox with no pipes etc which looks ****

dj_wudgey
26-04-10, 10:16 AM

Thats my plan, after going through my MOT this weekend I realised the vinyl is probably hiding some rot so that's due to go, and I'll probably respray the bottom half in some bumper paint, it's not my main project really so minimum expenditure needed. lol Although those standard seats have gotta go, back killers :( Would like to go with SRi red seats to minimise the spend and keep the standardish looks, it is SRi exterior after all, but tempted by comfy cruiser style leathers atm... that then means the rest of the interior doesn't match though and then it all starts to snowball into robbing my main project of the best part of £500 lol

lol, Mk2 astra SXi seats are the same but have proper bolsters (so would be perfect for you!)

Right well I have sprayed the wheels, O/S door shut and made a Side exit today (yes I mental)

Will upload photos in a minute...

Reasons for choosing a side exit over a conventional rear exiting exhaust are as follows:
1, Less exhaust to rot!
2, To be dfferent
3, Looks cool
4, Stops the car from getting covered in suttt
5, Covers anything on the N/S in black FOG!!!(this might be the deciding reason)

he just said its got 6 1/2" clearance, thats more than most peoples sills and splitters. so unless you are gonna build a 12" high speedbump at the end of dans drive, it will be fine.

jeez, i've never known a forum with so much ****ing negativity :wall:

Looking good fella :) Did you spray it on aye ?

Could you go through what prep you done in order to go about getting it done - It's a grey area in my mind and I can't decide what to do with my project

Well, mine had already been done so was fairly clean underneath.

I waited for a dry period to be sure I would not trap any moisture,

then on the day I jacked the car up and wire brushed all the dry dirt off, and any loose underseal.

Then you just set your compresser at 70-90 psi, and spray the gear on!

Be careful not to get it on the body work though, as its messy stuff

I used 4 1 litres tins, cost £18 with the gun, Bargin I think!

Any more questions just ask, thanks for the positive comments people :D

BTW if you Have a Mint shell and Not rot why not stone chip it then gloss it ?

Was there any surface rust on the underside of your car if so, how did you treat that ?

Balley
16-05-10, 08:30 PM
No not really , as said it had all been done before.
When it was welded I wire wheeled it and then coated in either underseal or primer.

The underseal soaks into any minor rust and prevents it from becoming worse if your worried about light surface rust :thumb:

vaughanmc
16-05-10, 08:32 PM
I'll need to see what my MK1 is like underneath - I know it's clean but need to see if theres any surface rust - I want to Kurust any surface rust then blitz the whole underside in a thick stonechip sort of stuff...Maybe Scutz

I know my back panel has some light bubbles down the bottom...Probably take that back with a wire-wheel :)

Cheers for the hints and tips cheif...Much appreciated

+Rep if I can

Balley
16-05-10, 08:37 PM
Yeah wire wheel it, then use the krust stuff (I used that on wings, seems to work ok)

Yeah I used Tetra Schutz mate, fantastic stuff as it never quite drys so soaks in very well and doesnt trap water like other underseals do.

I would only use stone chip if its perfect with no rust other wise your just covering it up,.

vaughanmc
16-05-10, 08:38 PM
Probably use Schutz :) Then go over it with a clear coat of Waxoil at the seams etc then the shell will be pumped full of Waxoil from the inside lol
