while lookin round my interior i thought bout removin the handles that open the door. i looked at them and there only a pull mechanism and was wonderin if wirin a solenoid in with a timed relay say 10 seconds would work 4 openin the door by a switch instead of the ugly handles. ne1 got ne ideas whether this would work?

cheers

Yep, you can wire in a solenoid to open the handles from the inside.

If you already have de-handled your doors from the outside, then it's just a case of splicing into the door 'pop' you already have and fitting more buttons inside the car.

don't have dehandled doors i like my handles just want rid of the interior 1's decided it's the same principle as dehandled doors so just need solenoid n timed relay 2 switch

I'm presuming you've got manual windows. I mean if you have an electrical problem with your door release you will have an electrical problem with your windows.

Just a thought.

nah was gona make sure i wired it 2 a seperate circuit 2 the windows so 2 avoid that problem prob on the interior light circuit.

THEN U JUST TAKE THE DOOR CARD OFF AND MANUALLY OPEN THE DOOR!

Thought youd see that Chris_LR!

I wanna dehandle my car outside too, so need a timed relay to reset the solenoids once the door has opened!

Ideas would be welcome!

from wot ive seen in other posts the solenoids will reset themselves when the doors r shut again so shudn't need a relay 4 that.

i think chris_lr is just tryin 2 point out potential problems but ive thought most of them thru and still want 2 go with it

Yes, problem finding. I love it.

My current car has manual sliding windows and no locks, so I'm very much OK. However if I do get stuck I just take the door off.

As long as you know what your doing you will be OK, to be honest taking the door car off isn't all that easy whilst sat in the car (Especially a Mk2), unless your new ones are very different to standard.

Let us know what you do, and how you do it.

well the only difficult thing with the door cards(mk 1 so clips along bottom not screws) i no of is the window handle but havin electrics i don't get this so my door cards are just a few screws n i always have a couple of tools incase i breakdown so as far as i can c it's sorted. just need 2 find out bout makin the relay

It's just a couple of screwdrivers Mk1 & 2, but In Mk2's you'd find it hard to get to the bottom four screws without opening the door

Like I said.........Nice idea with good results - so long as you know what your doing.

Ne way back to the original point!

The solenoids wont reset, they will stay open, meaning that the door wont close! Ive tried this by holding the metal bar in open position and slamming door and it wont shut coz the catch wont activate!

therefore the solenoids need to be reset each time after a few secs!

Any ideas!?

I'm not sure I could be patient enough to wait for the doors to open via a switch. Especially if it takes a few seconds once you press the button before the door opens.

solenoids are purely push pull devices

the spring in the catch will return it to its orignial state.

when you pull the lever what happens to it? the lock pushes it back again

as for waiting a delay for the opening, i dont know why you want to do that? i assume you want the door lock open for four seconds to give you enough time to get out? you could always keep your finger on the button whilst opening the door ;)
