View Full Version : ma m8's Chevette Project 3.0 v6 supercharger
my mate is building up a supercharged 3.0 v6 chevette, he has had a few nova's before but decided on something older and rear wheel drive. he bought this on ebay and picked it up in the dark so never really seen it properly untill day after when their was no going bk lol surprisingly it was REALLY CLEAN like REALLY clean. he has started work on it without pics so will tell you what has already been done
engine and auto box removed
rear doors welded shut, fillered and primed
lights and bumpers removed
sound deadening removed from boot floor (No RUST surprisingly)
lowered rear springs
alloys and spacer's
cleaned up sill's as this was worst part on car
smoothed in fixed panel's

im sorry but as the sites rwd old skool vaux champion, that is a waste of a good 4dr chevette. the proportions are all wrong, and its done with filler so when it flexes (esp with the v6) it will just crack. ah well at least it isnt a really valuable car. btw iirc delta do a delta 1 kit for em :D

Dunno like, slammed on its a*se I think the proportions will work, will need rear perspex windows though as the divide is really letting it down, agree with your comment over filler!:thumb:
it has been welded all round the doors, i watched him do it - he properly filled full of weld and had to flap loads back. He did stitch welds all round and kept going round till gap was filled with weld as not to warp the shape. The filler is just a skim as it had high and low spots, we also used a hammer (hammer and dolly style hammer) to flaten high spots also the door handle has plate welded in but is set bk a little (talking 2-3mm) so is not all filler.

what a great sleeper that would of made
my mate wanted to do a rear wheel drive nova saloon but budget was low an he saw this it was only £350 T+Ted already rear wheel drive so alot of the work an cost has been cut down. He is a machanic by trade and a good welder but wanted to do some bodywork lol thus welding doors up. he has already got the purpex windows but wont be getting fitted untill respray. He has built a redtop nova, crashed it then put engine into a corsa and then tookit out and replaced with 2.5v6 with F20 but wasent happy with it so put in 3.0 omega with an F28 an 200 shot of nitros but had lots of trouble getting power down thus wanting rear wheel drive.

that white corsa looked gash IMO,but the plans for this sound good
as long as he dosent put a kit like on the corsa onto it!

no the chevette is getting painted VXR Blue no kit he is deciding weather to leave bumpers of as it is being smoothed all round, if he keeps bumpers on the will be chromed gold. it is also getting compleatly stripped from interier just leaving dash in.

G_nova, i finihed that 1.7 fiesta with puma engine today, was easyer than i thought. shes gonna sell it.:)
thats my old chevette, they collected it at half 12 at night lol was a really good clean car but i had no room for it
posting some more progress pics on tonight so have another look mate. It was my mate who bought chevette im just showing his project on here, so you will be able to have a look at work now being carried out on your old car lol. It is the cleanest chevette i have seen for its age - your right.

If you search stigy bud he has started the thread of, it has new pics in. Title of thread is - MY chvette project
when you get the engine & box fitted, please find a decent back axle for it, because the std shove it one has about a 4.5:1 diff & only capable of handling 100hp before giving up.. thinking either irs or ford or even volvo 240.....

I think he using manta back axel, he wants to put in a 3.0 V6 but he dosent know which axel and prop will be able to handle the power lol thats where he is stuck. (needs more researching) I will tell him you sugested that volvo might fit. Have you any more info around this matter as im sure it will help thanks mate.
the ford atlas will fit but cost. the manta is too wide. if he can find an old toyota celica st, it is pretty strong & quite narrow, but the moggie minor boys buy most of them...
there are some fiat group ones that would still have the 100pcd fitment.

Thanks mate i will show him this, you seem to know quite a bit about rear wheel drive vehicles, my mate (stigy bud) has started a thread of himself so you can talk to him on that one as i was ment to be closeing this thraed but everyone keeps posting comments lol i dont mind though.

non yet its just words at the min a little dream he keeps having lol im not even sure how you would set about supercharging it lol
transit tipper rear axle ftw, silly fast acceleration and twin wheels to put the powwwerrrr down!!! lol
