I have just had my C20xe Nova track car on a rolling road tune up yesturday. The engine has just been rebuilt with basicly standard internals, other than APR big end bolts. It is running twin 45 DCOE webbers and distrubuator system. On the rolling road print out have 183 bhp @ 6500 rpm and 159 foot pounds of torque at 5800 rpm!
How does this compare with your cars?
my new motor ive just built should be around 250 or so.
but im on steel rods, slipper pistons, l/b bottom end, qed wasted valves, dual springs, steel caps, arrow solids newman full race cams, tony law exhaust manifold, qed throttle bodies.
my mates xe makes 228 at wheels on a slightly less spec..not ideal to compare but rough idea for me to compare

When mapped a year ago mine made 207.9bhp, early xe with direct to head QED throttle bodies, cams, vernier pulleys, oversize manifold and system, converted to distributor less ignition.
Mine's pretty much standard, just the usual exhaust and chipped ECU. It got 165bhp on the rolling road. Not bad but nothing compared to some of the boys on here lol
I would be seriously ignoring those figures!

Why should i ignore the figures?
I know they can be a lil optimistic but it was done by a reputable company at Thruxton race circuit so i haven't got a reason to doubt him.
It certainly pulls stronger than my mates standard XE.
150bhp as standard when it rolled out the factory 15 years ago.
With fatigue, wear and a 100k miles or so a standard xe weighs in at around 130bhp these days so a superduperchip and an exhaust which 90% of xe Nova's have to acheive 165ish bhp the guy's rollers are reading higher than a 4 year old with war and peace on there bedside table!

i had a std high mileage xe on the rollers, with a powercap and exhaust, it made 154, not bad imo!

Of course you could be right however I'm sure theres some exceptions... also I'm not sure what exact engine he has but as you probably know, some red tops start at 156 hp like the astra gte. Of course also you get 'good ones and bad ones' 'fit ones and dead ones'.

my favorite experiment that we did at a RR was to do a run, then put the compensation temp probe into an ice cream, lost 200bhp (it was a ford GT with extra bits) then did another run with the probe in a cup of coffee, gained 200bhp on the std figure :D

Dont know what mine will be putting out as it's still sat on the stand!!! TBH i dont give a flying **** either, as long as its quick enough to make me smile, i'm 110% confident it will, i'll be happy.
TBH i dont remember seeing a std xe run under about 145hp at any rolling road ive been to.
They seem to age very well for some reason....
Want to get mine on the rollers soon, i'll be happy if it makes 150-160hp. Standard dispak engine bar a SBD Type A manifold.
Ernie, bin that std xe manifold and get a decent one!!! Thats probably holding 10 hp off your engine atm.....

Yeah i have seen that too, only if you use BP Ultimate and need to have the first tank off fuel after the tanker delivery so its really fresh :thumb:
My old xe, 139kmile dispac enginewith a eds chip and cheap cone filter, power cap and a full stainless system made 163ish from what i remember.. Was happy with that.

My old XE came out at 156BHP with a straight throught exhuast,power cap, cheap filter and ECU light on, something to do with hall sensor iirc, running rich as fcuk, PNG RR day and... Some old XE's still have the guts to pull out decent power

Well it has a rr print out so its there in black and white just goin by that only had it bout 2 weeks, and thats just the advert from when i bought it, it could be down to the driver tho it was him that used to go down the 1/4 mile the lad i bought it off didnt seem the brightest of sparks if u get what i mean and my mate has seen him spin his new car on a round about he has a gt4 now

what rollers would you say was the most accurate?
As said previously in the thread, the most honest rollers about seem to be the ones at Track & Road.....
Altho when we went, Jamsports rollers seemed pretty spot on too

Jams 2wd rollers at the very least "matched" what Olllly and I got at TnR on separate occasions
My last xe'd saloon made 187 at the world renounded for being sh1te, and reading far too high, Well Lane Turbo Centre in Leeds. The car had a Irmscher Ecu, power cap, adj fpr, enlarged throttle body, cone filter, and a jp exhaust, I thought it was too high for std internals and a std manifold

I got my car rolling roaded at Gerald Dale Motorsport near Bexhill-on-sea. I have had a number of vehicles there in the past at the rollers seem to be accurate.
Gerald Dale himself is a complete proffessional engineer that really knows his stuff about engines and webber carbs especially.
I would highly recommend him to anyone, who wants an engine set up properly.

id happily take it to track and road or jamsport for a "propper" reading as these rrd's are obviously the best but i aint travelling all that way
ive heard dif stories about jamsport tbh.
my mates xe made 184 on one rollers and 180 on another.
fully rebuilt. arp rod bolts, lightened/balanced, powercap, decat, superchip and i did a head for him. used to piss alot of local lads off and always have them asking me what id done to the head.lol

My old engine was RR at Stealth Racing (http://www.stealthracing.co.uk/) southam
It had a rebuild of pistons/valves bearings and ARP bolts added, 2" power flow system,power cap,ITG induction filter.
This was the results.

And we tried it with "Courtnay Chipped ECU" and it gained 1bhp and lost 3lbft! lol
I have no reason to doubt the result either.
As for my set up i have now I'm guessing about 180-185bhp?

Four bhp is nothing, with different days there is different barometric pressure and propably different air inlet temperatures. The greater the inlet air temperature on an ECU engine, the ignition will be retarded to prevent the engine entering pinking or pre-ignition. The cooler or colder the inlet air temperature the greater about of ignition advance can be achived before the engine enters pre-ignition.
This hopefully explains the differences between results on different dynos, post 66.

Seriously dude - you need to stop digging your hole.
A relatively standard XE would not produce that torque - a massively modded 250+ screamer is lucky to be in the 180's!
My mate built a decent spec XE with QED TB's etc and it rolling roaded at 220bhp and 160lb/ft, should have just chipped it and saved himself £6k and had more torque!!
I think I'll go for the chip route if it gets those results, ok the pwoer is down but tis still 40 up on what I have now lmao

agree, 40's cap the power at std levels, but they do hump the torque up in the low-midrange :)
an STD inlet manifold isnt a problem..... aslong as the rest of the engine is specced to suit said power, eg cams, proper management rather than a chipped std one etc
