View Full Version : Bucket seats fitting
im after some suggestions of the best ways to mount bucket seats into a mk1 nova, ive got cobra monaco seats with univesal base mounts, ive had a look and there is no practical way i can see of adapting the standard subframe.
Im thinking on some box section or tube welded in then bolt the mounts to that, or do i buy tailored mounts?
some suggestions and photos of how you have gone about it would be great.
Cheers

two lenths of box welded in drill holes and bolt away
thats what i was thinking, 2" box be about right for the height wise? and the weld to the exhaust tunnel and inner sill?

According to most of the project logs on here, weld some spreader plates to the sills and center tunnel, then weld box section to that.

thats a great help, photos are just what i wanted to see, cheers
For base mount seats I'd look in to how much tailored subframes are, or try and adapt some GSi/GTE subframes.

Taken from Count Vaux Alot's build thread....http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1131886&highlight=seat+rails#post1131886 scroll down abit.
are the gsi/ gte subframes different then?
pete thats great, i think that is the route im gonna go with
what sizes of material will be best, im thinking 3mm mild steel for the plates and some 1" box section for the rails to allow me to get access underneath them for nut and bolt fixing.
Either that or use 2" box welded to the car instead of using the plates, then drilling the box and using a thread insert?
This is what ive got to work with, as you can see the subframes have plates bolted to them to allow them to be bolted down easily without messing under the seat.

and these are the standard seat frames which are unusable as they are too high

IMO, i'd say what you've suggested would be fine.
Maybe PM CountVauxAlot.
3mm 1"/25mm boxsection is fine, 3mm spreader plates are good also.
I know you've been shown a shedload of WIPs, but here's mine, and did the same as what you're thinking of with the threaded insert:

Yeah I've heard GTE/GSi subframes are different and suitable for modding for bucket seats, never tried it myself though.
thats tidy, think if im going for 1" box ill just use nut and bolt tho just as its a bit easier to do. cant wait to get it all done now, ill have to get a project thread up on here.
Cheers for all the help
