View Full Version : RJ clone lol Tyre advice required please, possible stretch.

I wouldn't say this is a styling question as such, so I put it in here.

I bought some 14x6J Speedlines from bowman on here for my Volvo but they currently run 205/60/14 tyres and aren't ideal lol. A little bit of fettling to the rear spring shackle carrier thing and they were on though.

I did intend to just run them as is and then when the tyres needed replacing - shortly with a locked diff tbh, I was going to paint up the rims and change the tyre size. However they are scrubbing on occasion and a touch monster truck for my liking lol. Although a 100% improvement on my bald 13's! :d

It seems that 14" is an odd size, so do people have any idea what I could run on a 6J rim that will give me a decent looking sidewall and not cost the earth like say a 195/45 would?

Surely there are/were cars running 5J steels with a profile of rubber that stretches OK. Any pics/experience would be handy!

I don't mind a bit of stretch either, just never been a fan of stupid amounts for the most part, and anyway, a little will assist in letting the car drift easier. lol

195-45 is cheap :S i payed 55 euro a tyre (uniroyal rainsport 2)


185-55 isnt that expensive iirc

Cheers Mayhem, I thought 195/45 was pricey. Maybe I was wrong. The cheaper the better though lol. As it eats tyres.

Will check those sizes out mate. +rep. Rep also to wwmnw for being kind lol. It looked better with its original (older) tail lights in mate! Cheers though.

Do you take this out often mate? As I'm sometimes down roker (Saw a beige loon Nova down there not long ago) I'm usually up at the retail park if you call it that, At the car park.

Yeah Mayhem, the cheap part is quite important. lol There's a few 185/55/14's on eBay. May get something from one of the auctions.

I'm ashamed to say I have been to Roker Retail a couple of times lately.
Tend to head over there after being at my mates unit. You'll see me with this

Red 3 door on MK3 Astra sport alloys (8 spoke) with scratch's all over :( is me (Tis a wip), I want a go of one of them Volvo's :d Love the RWD cars after driving my mates Chevette.

had a quick look... 175-50-14 is about 80 euro a tyre, 185-55 starts at 44 euro a tyre lol

Chevette may be for sale if you want another drift car :) In use at the moment though. Works like a charm, I drove it back from Liverpool.

Ben, I am the boy like. w4nker lights for the washer jets would be on if they weren't hidden, ah well I will have to be content with making lex4rse lights and ticking on a bangin SPLX bass tube at Motorworld.

i would go with 185-60-14, you should be able to get somethin decent for around 40quid each

2 door loon, 1.2 needs respray and some panels/doors, Mate bought it to make a super dooper drag car but is having enough chew with his current track car.

Underneath is more solid than my Nova and that is no exaggeration, And my Nova is pretty solid underneath.

i have fulda exelero's on mine rim width is 7j and the tyres are 195/45's £40ish a tyre and it looks like they have a little strech on them but not OTT and a very grippy tyre aswell i can cat a pic if you want to see the strech on them

No decent pics at the moment, Just two of when the head gasket popped as I was driving in back from Liverpool, It is currently in use by my mates brother til he sorts his car out.
