View Full Version : Oil pressure readings on 6 dial clocks

Just ripped my digidash out and refitted the GSi 6 dial clocks (LET engine) but am a bit unsure on the oil pressure readings now.

When started from cold reads halfway between 3/4 and full.

Warm idle is halfway between 1/4 and 1/2.

When revved when warm it reads about halfway between 3/4 and full at about 1500rpm.

Never goes up to full.

However my other Nova (XE) reads full on cold start.

Warm idle is half but the idle is 1100 rpm so a little bit high.

When revved it goes just over 3/4 and never reads anymore than that once warmed up.

All seems a bit strange, guessing the gauges are pretty ****e and unaccurate to be honest?

What does everyone elses read?

My 1.2 was exactly like that.

Thats the same as mine Lee. Been told its fine.

On my xe it was 3/4 most of the time and dipped to 1/2 when hot.
So the added heat of the blower seems right to me..

Cheers, makes me feel a little better.

Digidash used to read slightly higher but its in 6 stages and probably displays the third block when in reality its only just gone slightly over the second block for example (thats hard to explain)

Mine reads full then about half when its warmed up. Goes up to 3/4 - full when revved (c20xe)

My last one was the same on digi clocks

Out of interest what is your water temp at as well. Mine seems to be at 1/4, was on 1/2 with the digidash?

Mines on 1/4 with in a few min of driving, then gets to just under 1/2 and seems happy there... Fan then comes on when i slow in traffic or whatever..

Oh when really home (ragging it on the way home from billing) the oil pressure was getting down to just above the red when we slowed in traffic, this worried be, but i was told that was about 2lines on a digi dash so was ok.

On warm idle my XE oil pressure sits at half, then driving is about 3/4

Mines same as Mazz's /\
As long as its at least 3/4s by about 2000rpm, and it doesnt drop below about a 1/4 on warm idle, it should be fine.
My water temp never goes above 1/4 when driving, which is normal afaik as the fan kicks in at half.

Do we know what the lines work out to in pressure? As mine when hot on idel gets under the 1/4 line...

Its looking like the xe's read completely different to the lets then

More heat=less pressure as it makes the oil thinner ^

Exactly what I said to him, I don't blame him for being worried though, due too loosing a few engines because of oil pressure

I'm not convinced. I know thinner oil means less pressure but I run an oil cooler on the LET but not on the XE.

Surely the LET with the oil cooler should keep the oil at a cooler temperature than the XE without one hence the oil will be thicker and pressure should be the same if not better?

hhhmm yeah i guess your right...

No clue then.

As long as it isnt sitting below 1/4 mark at any time, its fine

Mmmm, only drove it about 10 miles, but drove it hard so should have got the oil up to temp. Scared of running it longer in case it does something I don't like!!

Just keep an eye on the gauge

Just keep an eye on the gauge

Keep eye on the gauges so much that i'm rarely looking out of the windscreen lol

^ we all do that...

If it drops to slow you'lll here tapping before anything and you know to turn off.
