I thought I'd post this here after getting shot down in another thread where it seems I'm the only one to like CDJ's lol

There seems to be quite a few DJ's on here now and theres always a debate between whether vinyl or CD/MP3 is better.

You always see things like "Real DJ's only use vinyl".. This is rubbish, DJing isn't about the format you use, it's about being able to work and satisfy the crowd, at the end of the day your job as a DJ is to make all those dancing people (or listeners in the case of radio) happy!

I used to use vinyl primarily but like most found that it's disadvantages of weight and cost lost out massively to CD's, MP3's are much cheaper to buy than vinyl and are a lot quicker to download now with fast broadband.

Once I'd played on some Pioneer CDJ's and realised that I could do the same as I could on a vinyl turntable but with a few extra features like looping and cue points I was hooked!

There's always the debates on producers losing out "because" of MP3's, this is two fold because there are now a lot more producers who have released music digitally with no outlay via the online digital stores such as Beatport. These stores offer a bedroom producer (of which there are many awesome ones) a way to get his music out to a massive audience very easily. I have a good friend who is just starting to get noticed by taking this route, he would have had no chance otherwise.

I really hate DJ's downloading music illegally, another friend of mine hasn't bought any music in his life, he uses some forums where they "share" music. This depresses me when I spend about £30 a time buying MP3's and he always seems to have the latest awesome tunes without spending a dime.

Anyway, I personally love my setup which consists of 2 x CDJ1000 MK3's - 1 x DJM600 - 1 x EFX500 - 2 X 1210's. I play tech house and techno mostly but have all kinds of house in the bag lol
I've played lots of underground nights but also things like MOS a couple of times and even Hed Kandi a couple of times! A group of us also had a stint of running some nights locally which was quite succesful but then dropped off, mostly due to location though. Done radio shows too (RSL's, pirate and web).

It's the music and clubbing culture that I'm into, I couldnt care less what the DJ is using to play the music, if he's in control and rocking the dancefloor he gets my vote! There's quite a few DJ's incorporating laptops and Ableton Live into their sets, the stuff they are doing get's quite technical and challenging and is amazing to watch!

I agree vinyl all the way, if you can do it on vinyl you can sure as hell do it on CDJs. Plus you cant beat the warm sound you get from a vinyl AND you can see the music :)

I must admit vinyl does have a mint sound to it, it sounds so much purer when you can hear the crackles and noise as the needle hits dust on the grooves, but ive voted anything aslong as the musics good tbh:thumb:

CDJ's are okay but they will never beat vinyl, id choose my 1210s over my cdj's anyday

face it u aint a dj unless u love the poppin sound before the vinyls kicks in ;)

I voted both but CDJs were the future, now its its laptops and software like serato scratch. most big name dj's i've seen recently are using time coded setups.

I learnt on vinyl and still love playing with it from time to time and yes, the sound is richer but you can't compare it to the versatility of CDJs.

Im not a DJ but I dont care what the DJ uses as long as they play something worth dancing to. Having a boyfriend and being a none drinker means I go clubbing purely to dance and have a good time with my mates so the music has got to be right!

Vinyl only for me, I totally respect how great CDJ's are and they are very easy to use and thus make you look and sound great, however I prefer that old crackly vinyl, the one that jumps, the one that you hear being touched worked on.

Digital media is the future but you can't beat some oldskool vinyl

As you can see I have more vinyl than cd's lol
