I thought I'd post this here after getting shot down in another thread where it seems I'm the only one to like CDJ's lol
There seems to be quite a few DJ's on here now and theres always a debate between whether vinyl or CD/MP3 is better.
You always see things like "Real DJ's only use vinyl".. This is rubbish, DJing isn't about the format you use, it's about being able to work and satisfy the crowd, at the end of the day your job as a DJ is to make all those dancing people (or listeners in the case of radio) happy!
I used to use vinyl primarily but like most found that it's disadvantages of weight and cost lost out massively to CD's, MP3's are much cheaper to buy than vinyl and are a lot quicker to download now with fast broadband.
Once I'd played on some Pioneer CDJ's and realised that I could do the same as I could on a vinyl turntable but with a few extra features like looping and cue points I was hooked!
There's always the debates on producers losing out "because" of MP3's, this is two fold because there are now a lot more producers who have released music digitally with no outlay via the online digital stores such as Beatport. These stores offer a bedroom producer (of which there are many awesome ones) a way to get his music out to a massive audience very easily. I have a good friend who is just starting to get noticed by taking this route, he would have had no chance otherwise.
I really hate DJ's downloading music illegally, another friend of mine hasn't bought any music in his life, he uses some forums where they "share" music. This depresses me when I spend about £30 a time buying MP3's and he always seems to have the latest awesome tunes without spending a dime.
Anyway, I personally love my setup which consists of 2 x CDJ1000 MK3's - 1 x DJM600 - 1 x EFX500 - 2 X 1210's. I play tech house and techno mostly but have all kinds of house in the bag lol
I've played lots of underground nights but also things like MOS a couple of times and even Hed Kandi a couple of times! A group of us also had a stint of running some nights locally which was quite succesful but then dropped off, mostly due to location though. Done radio shows too (RSL's, pirate and web).
It's the music and clubbing culture that I'm into, I couldnt care less what the DJ is using to play the music, if he's in control and rocking the dancefloor he gets my vote! There's quite a few DJ's incorporating laptops and Ableton Live into their sets, the stuff they are doing get's quite technical and challenging and is amazing to watch!
