View Full Version : connecting wires
i'll soon be installing my new alarm and was just wondering the best way to connect up the wires.
ie. i cut the indictor wire and need to join the alarm wire into this circuit.. whats the best way to do this?
if u know what am on about?

Use scothlocks mate. little blue connector things. basically put both the wires in and push the top bit with a pair of pliers. it connects the wire to the ciruit and its the easiest way without cutting wires here there and everywhere.
what i mean is how would i connect 3 wires together? not sure if i'm getting totally confused here or not. but say i have 1 wire leading from a switch.. and i have another wire which needs to be tapped into the wire leading from the switch.......
would i cut the wire leading from the switch and if so this would leave the end of 3 wires all to be connected together would it not?
really sorry if i've scrambled any1!

sctochlocks will do what your asking they work like this:
SCOTCHLOCK..........!?????
..............................! !------------- NEW WIRE
..............................! !
-------------------------------------------------------- MAIN WIRE
what a pretty picture! :D
Your right though, scotchlocks are the best option

Its a very pretty picture and even though i know what it is and how it works - the diagram still makes very little sense to me. :?
this should be a link to what they roughly look like:

what was it you did? welding something?
Well ive done it twice. once was welding and the other time i got a couple of wires mixed up and connected them together. i burnt out about 2 metres of wire, setting it on fire. There was loads of smoke :o

NICE!!!
Sorry guys! That is the easiest but soldering and heat shrink is by far the best!
yep, it is but it is sometimes an effort
just 1 more thing... when it says connect to the fuse. how do u do that.
can u connect a wire directly to the fuse or do u just tap into the circuit in concern???
