Why? Any error messages? What format videos are you dropping into it?

Usually its a bad codec that causes it to crash, my computer hates .avi files at the moment. They keep killing my explorer sessions too

I was looking for some free software a while back and couldn't find anything. In the end settled for Cyberlink PowerDirector (http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector/overview_en_GB.html), it's fairly decent and very intuitive to use. Think it's about £35 but has a free trial

Try this, Avidemux. It's an open source app, I've used it lots on Linux and it's been fine for cutting/chopping video around, resizing/scaling and encoding.
