Loud Tapping

When I start my car when the engine is cold theres a loud tapping noise coming from the engine. It lasts a couple of minutes and then stops. Does any one have any idea what it is as it doesn't sound good.I was told it had somet to do with hydraulic tappets?

Yes it is the hydraulic tappets, this is fairly normal. you may have one that is sticking slightly but I wouldn't worry if it goes quiet after a while. The oil pressure has to build up in the engine to pump the tappets up, the noise is the cam lobes banging against the tappet as there is a gap between the two intil it is pumped up.
