its a redtop calibra and the astra is a mk3 1.4 8v shell with a c16se fitted.

hmm, you deffo wanna get a second opinion to make sure, but im fairly sure the spline count is different on 16se gte shafts compared to the xe. the shafts might be physically right in length possibly, but the inner cv's wont match, youll have to change the inner ends for mk.2 cavalier cv's ? my memorys not working.

what boxes on each engine, i guess the redtops running an f20 ? and the gte engine an f13 ?

what u upto exactly, putting the redtop into the astra ?

the shafts will fitt if you put the cally legs on as the cv's are bigger and use the astra shocker inserts and top mounts

well to be honest id scrap everything under your bonnet and put all the cally running gear in , the diesel box's are wide ratio and power sapping , plus id have put money on it being a small block box witch again need spacing for clutch clearence , not to mention a red top would slip a small block clutch to death even the 8v 2litre clutches arnt great with 150 bhp .
have a look in ur astra on the box where the linkage housing is on top , on the bk edge facing the bulk head it will say f16 or wateva n that will shed light on that for us :thumb:

right so all the cally running gear will fit into the astra ?

thats all i need to know and also are the engine mounts the same?

A 1.4 astra will be small block, so the hubs will be wrong.
So yes swap all the running gear for the cally stuff. But you'll need to change the shock inserts and top mounts over.

cant i just use the astra shocks ?

Are the inserts hard to change?

calibra mounts be same also?

Right you can use the shocks, but on a astra/cally the leg is all in one.
The hubs in that, co you'll have to get the hubs pushed out and swaped (astra will be small block) So better off using the cally leg, then just fitting the astra top mount and shock insert.

Its no hard when its apart, if you have a vice its easy.

na not got a vice so will just use the cally stuff

+rep coming benn Cheers for the help

P.s Might be getting a redtop out of an astra now but the calibra is there as a backup i supose

No you need the astra top mount as the cally one wont fit and the top mount wont fit the shock insert.

yes i know about the top mounts is the insert hard to change?

No, its just a large nut on the top that holds it in to the leg. But its frigging tight. Holding it in a vice and turning the leg is a easy way of going it.
Or a big( and i mean big i used 24" mouth ones) set of pipe grips can do it.
