I DONT NO WHAT TO DO? Think ill be buying my brothers Gsi off him sometime this month:-

http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt87/austen-b/SL272517.jpg

My plans were to get a standard nova, paint it 'n' either Gsi/Gte rep it? then put my XE in. If i do buy this i know id be too tempted to stick my 2ltr in it instead, Do you think it would be ruining its genuineity...
what would you do, leave it as it is? or not?
Or have best of both worlds:d

who mentioned big/small block ?

to geta 1600 upto 150bhp would be loads more hassle than fitting an XE, not to mention a pig to drive sensibly, need more looking after/keeping an eye on, alot more thirsty on juice

gary_126 on here has a 170odd 1.6 cost a sheet load.

depends how you go about it.all im saying is he would be tempted to put his xe in the gsi what for more power he could just spend a few quid on the 1600 and make it a bit more fun

I think thats good advice! woudlnt want to ruin it by doing a tatty job;)
i'd like to keep it standard since there only becoming more 'n' more rare nowadays:cry: but on the other hand, do a top job and it could be a vast improvement...? also if i ever then sold the car on its most likley to get converted anyways! so would regret never doing it myself!!
Like the idea of tuning the 1.6 engine as well....Hmmm

silk violet is a sexual couler for the gsi's best one imo leave it a 1.6 or you will regret it later there is to many xe's not enough small blocks

and small blocks handle verry well for little money were xe's you spend big money to make them go around bends but thats jus my opinion

the choice is in the owners hands best of luck:thumb:

nice motor by the way :d

I'd big block XE it, the 1.6 engines are totally lame.

Tried driving a GSi after selling one of my XE Nova's and within two weeks of buying it the 1.6 was out and an XE in.

Agreed! after driving it myself i was expecting more... I imagine id become a bit bored of the 1.6:(?

Yeah mate you'll get bored of the 1.6 very quickly!

But then you'll get bored of the xe eventually as you'll always want something quicker and there is always something quicker out there!

XE's are brilliant though!

I could never be bored with a novalol i think the xe adds a lot more character and obviously speed.. as far as novas go it aint gunna get much quicker, unless i ever go TURBO:d so it would be enough for for me:)
but still id feel guilty for doing it:( just have to wait and see...

xe it - you'll make my original one worth more lol. Seriously please don't mate, you could probably buy a 1.2 an redtop it and still have change out of whatever price that one will cost you anyway!

It does add more speed, but a std XE is still not fast. I got pretty bored of my old one, the only advantage was it "felt" faster than it was going - 50mph felt like 100, where as in the GT4 100mph feels like 50 lol

Mind you, with the V6 its a damned sight smoother. Don't think I'vd ever want another 4cyl Nova now. [edit] that doesn't mean I think you should V6 it lol

Agree with Razorjack, stories of XE Nova's being the fastest cars on the road are rubbish, they are quickish cars but some of the stories I read on the forums make me cringe!!

When I fitted my first XE 8 years ago (replacing a 1.6) I was pretty disappointed after all the hype and had a LET thrown in within a year. However I still have an XE Nova as a daily smoker but its a bit of a freak and a lot faster than the other 4 I have had.

lol you drive a vxr astra daily , so a 1.6 would make you cry lol ,

just do a good job of XE'in it , can always put a 1.6 back in if you want lol

plus xe's look soo good in an engine bay lol

How about you buy it first!!!! Looks clean enough, so maybe keep it as it is for now. If you get bored/feel the need to XE it then so be it.

At the end of the day do what you like!
