when you change the manifold gasket to the block do you have to use a sealiant or anything or do you simplt take the remains of the old one and bolt on the new one?
i used the orange sealant that halfords sell.
and the old gasket lol

Is it the inlet or exhaust manifold gasket you are changing?

if u mean the head / block gasket then NO it goes on dry, and use only a Vaux gasket

is this an easy job is it a one man or r u better to have too and is the any special tools needed or is it just a standard socket set job?

I did it in a day with no other experience. Just get yourself a Haynes Manual and it will tell you step by step.
You might need some head bolts as they are only ment to be used once.
And you will have to have an angle gage when tightening them up or make a cardboard template as explained in the haynes manual.

torque wrench............
oh and the latest head bolts from vauxhall (i found anyway) have * shaped heads so you need a torq or torx? style socket.

the timing mike?is it not a case of 8 bolts out rub down then put back on with 8 new bolts with toque wrench?and i just looked at it the ones that r in it look new as they are shiny silver not like the rest camoflaged buy the engine

the bolts stretch so even if they look new they will still need to be replaced.
When you tighten the bolts you go round all the bolts in a certain order (explained in a haynes) up to a certain torque. Then you go round them all again tightening each bolt 60 degrees or something like that. Then you go round them all again turning 60 degrees hence why u need a template with 60 degrees marked on or a gage. Doing it that way makes sure they are all as tight as they should be and tightened evenly.
Dont ask me why they use degrees i dont know. I just followed the manual!

you WILL need new head bolts.
timing?
well basically you have to take the top part of the engine (cam shaft assembly off) before the head of the engine, so the cam pulley will be disconnect from engine
make sure you line the TDC marks up before hand and you laffing

is it
Exhaust manifold (front of engine)
or
Inlet (rear of engine)
be a little more descriptive please

all that talking about heads and it is your exhaust gasket!! What are we like!!
The exhaust gasket should be like a semi-flexible metal coated gasket thinggy i think. :? The inlet is a card kinda gasket. I am not sure if you should use any sealent on the exhaust one.
When i changed my cylinder head i left the exhaust manafold on.
I wouldn't have thought you would need to thinking about the shape of the edges of the gasket. I think it seals when you tighten it up. Kinda crips it if you know what i mean.
Anyone else explain better?? :|

 was a good job i asked!
he almnost had is engine completely stripped just for a simple manifold gasket
if your running standard manifold firstly i would split it in two where there is four bolts, then crack all the engine end bolts off, and take the top piece of manifold out, to make it easier, fit new gasket, i think they go on dry, and basically bolt it back on
SIMPLE! LOL @ strippin your engine for you almost!!!!!!!!

does it still need tightened with a torque wrench or do i just tighten it with a normal spanner
Nova-Boy
25-02-03, 12:22 PM
It wont matter that much like the cylinder head. Jut tighten it up with a spanner. :). Nice and tight so the gasket is nice and sealed but not too tight that you will fcuk the bolts :!:
 was a good job i asked!
lmao, you were the one that started talkin about the head gasket in the first place
