I'm after an alarm for the 5 door. ATM i don't have c/l an can't be faffed with retro fitting it if i'm honest/ don't need to. I just want something to secure the car with, that's thatcham approved if poss, and won't break the bank!
Not bothered if i have to fit it myself either.

What have people got/can recommend? any links? Ta all! :) :thumb:

Most alarms dont need the central locking stuff so its not a problem. As long as the pin switchs work and you fit the sensors.

Id always say a gemini kit as its what i fit at work and what ive had fitted to my nova for ages without problem. Depends what you want it to do lol

Go for a toad dude, ive had a few ai606's and theyre spot on, also had a lower model a101cl and it did exactly what it said on the tin and will be easier to fit yourself as its not a cat1 so all the wires are colour coded lol

Cool, where from fella? Can you fit them yourself? It's a nova, don't want it to do much apart from it not start the car, when some noob tries to steal it! Oh and have a siren and indicator flash!

So it's a cat2? Can cat 1's not be fitted yourself then? could be usefull having a cat1 if i ever fit an xe.

You can fit them yourself if you can find a wiring diagram (obviously they are mega hard to come by)

Thatcham categories have nothing whatsoever to do with wire colour, its about the functionality of the immobilization device - ranging from Cat 1 to Cat 5.

ALL immobilizing security devices fall into one of the above categories (so saying your alarm/immob isn't cat 1 isn't technically correct), its whether or not the device is thatcham approved that makes it worthwhile - and to be approved, it has to be installed by a professional thatcham installer.

Group buy on alarm fittings sounds a good idea to me, must be a few people on here that are thinking about it but don't wanna jump in with the cash?

But like said (which i missed lol), no insurance point without being installed by a pro, AND everyone would have to agree with what alarm.

Not if you agreed with whatever company it was that it was anything from their range of alarms, still guaranteed business for them, cheaper prices for us, and a company with a couple of diff stores/mobile fitters could do a couple of group fittings dotted around the country.

True but nearly all insurance companys will say because its not installed by a pro its useless. Could be installed by a monkey lol.

Its ok for putting off theifs and stoping people from stealing the car.

Why would it not be installed by a pro? I never said anything about installing them yourself

theres plenty wires but its cause it has wires for all types of central locking and positive and negative pulses for indicators and door switches.its pretty straight forward and gets easier as you go. wiring here :thumb: http://clubgtinorfolk.com/downloads/alarm-manuals/toad/ai606/Ai606_Install.pdf

Top job! Do they usually charge much for signing off an install or is it a quick poke of the door to see if it goes off? lol

Edit: Sorry John kinda hijacked your thread lol But hopefully this is all helping you too! :)
