ok on my passenger side rear arch some rust is coming through :( nasty. I've got to take the lips off the arches soon enough coz its gona be lowered as soon as i get the springs off someone from novaload (you know who you are lazy boy  )
anyway, i was thinking whilst i was gettin this done i would get the rear arch sorted, but whats the best way? do u have to cut the rust out and weld new plate over or what?
Cheers, James
Well...yeah
No good welding over the rust! Be brutal, cut all the rust out complelely even if it kills the arch! You will need to get it sprayed anyway!
Then get someone you know with welding capabilities or a bodyshop to weld it up nice and clean.
At the same time they could grind the arches for you too.
Go with someone that you can tell what to do exactly or a decent bodyshop!

as for the arch, you can get repair kits
how succesful are they? and for the money they cost..(how much do they cost actually) vs the quality of finish, is it better to go for one of these or get it done by bodyshop??
james
Depends what u plan to do to the car and how long you intend to keep it!
If less than a year or 2 then fibre glass and fill it if you can. If you are doing it up and getting it sprayed etc etc then get it welded up properly which will cost hardly anything if you know someone and a little bit at a bodyshop! Depends on the bodyshop, if its just a repair type one then cheaper then somewhere like dawsons where you go to get your evo 5 vent smoothed in etc!
Get my point?
pm chris_lr or chris sr or whatever he calls himself now as he had a repair kit a while back.
