hi all, wandering if anybody can shed some light on a problem im having.

ive got my LET and F28 in the car ready to weld my gearbox mount on, so far ive got it level and tacked the mount in place. only problem im having now is that the engine doesnt look square in the bay. the gearbox side looks a bit too forward.

here are a couple of dodgy pics so you get the idea.

ive been taking measurements from the sunroof (as this is the only straight part with no curves on) down to the rocker cover. the O/S is 145cm and the N/S part of the cover is 145.5/146ish.

have looked for pics of other engines sat in the bay but cant find one to suit the angle to see if mines not square.

thanks for any help.:thumb:

Get a straight line between the front two top mount securing bolts.

Fit the slam panel - that will give you a good referance point to work from - You can tell straight away with the line of the cam cover and the front slam panel - looking from above will make it obvious

well ive taped the slam panel back on for now. was a bit off, so i unbolted the mount and jacked it up on the gearbox side. think ive got it more straight with slam panel.

what do you think??

it probably could come higher a bit which would take the dizzy side in more.

one thing ive noticed is that my rear gearbox mount looks under tension a bit wrong. (anybody got a pic of theres??) you can see where the bolt has left a mark for where it was tightened on my small block, which is where id assume it should be. id say the engine wants rotating slightley so it brings the mount out of stress.

it could be that the front gearbox mount is slightly out? have you checked your measurements?

yeah i think where i tacked it first( in the first pics) its defo out, which i did it there as the engine was level (or looked it with my dodgy eyes) the pics ive just put up i unbolted the front gearbox mount and jaked it up higher and thats how its sat now.which makes it more square in the bay. didnt look to see if it was level as the car was jacked up.

im also looking at pics from a thread keith robinson had started.

my gearbox wasnt as high or far back as that where ive tacked the mount. so basically its in the wrong position. which answers my own question really.

but, i need a bit more conformation of where it goes. i think going off the pics in keiths thread is a good place to start.

is the f28 a 6 speed ? should be a friggin rocket that thing.

to me, it looks like the boxside wants mooving toward the back of the car a smidge and maybe a smidge higher too, difficult to see in the pics. can u get a shot of the level of the cam cover from low down infront of the grill if u know what i mean. lol

try get the engine horizontally and vertically even, as best u can.
it wont need to be perfect as the driveshafts will take up any minor outness, but obviously u want it as good as you can get it without strain on the other mounts like u say.

and u wanna check the height of it too, you dont wannit too high as so u cant shut the bonnet, or too low so the box is clipping bumps.

good job so far mate, keep it up :thumb:

Yes taf its a LET with a 6 Speed F28 lol

You may find its worth looking through projects to see where other peoples sit, also from inside the wheel well.

Hope you get it sorted dude.

as you can see (compared to the other pics of keiths thread) it needs to go back toward the car and up slightly.which is what happens if you jack the box up more. ill cut the mount off an re-tack it and go from there.

wont be able to do anything until the weekend as i cant borrow my mates genny. i will start a WIP once ive got more done.

thanks for the replies:d
