my mot's coming up soon, and the only thing i think it will fail on is fog lights, they dont work. if i remove the switch, would they still fail it on it? because ive been told ''if its not there, they cant test it''

Depends, if its the fronts its not testable, if its rear then you have to have it by law mate so removing it wont make a blind bit of difference!

oh right ok then, well its my rear ones that dont work. any ideas?

you have to have 1 rear fog on the o/s by law. Try bulbs - fuse - switch should be one of the 3 lol

You see the white one, well on the other side it should be a red one. That's the one you're supposed to switch on in October, and switch off again in April.

Check the "circuit board" tracks on the bulb holder for breaks or corrosion.

It's not too difficult to run a single wire from the switch back to the light as a temporary fix if the wiring appears to be at fault.

Unless you're a saxo/BMW owner (or female) in which case it stays on all year round :p

If you can't find the fault, just buy a foglamp from halfords and tape it to the rear bumper lol

NovaBoi92

Why wouldn't it? Ok so you might have to secure it a bit better than tape, but still lol

for the MOT you have to have a working red fog lamp on the offside rear
or the middle (peugeot 206's)
and have a warning light on the dash or switch to tell the driver when the
fog lamp is turned on.
good luck mate!

does your switch light up when turned on?
if so you have a live to it and its a problem from there to the rear

have you got a set of euro lights?
where the fog lamp is on the nearside/passenger side

the fog lamp has to be for the uk/mot on the offside/drivers side

go and have a look!

no the fog lamp is on the offside, the reverse light is on the near side.

oh sorry i was thinking that the reverse light was on the O/S, so the fog light had to be on the other side. lol thanks

This is a common probem, it appears.

if the switch and bulb are Ok take the switch out and run a test lead from the green/grey to yellow/grey. switch the sidelights on and test. If this brings the system back to life you have found a way round the problem! Just check the yellow warning light works as if not, this is an MOT fail as well.
