Got a boat anchor here (originally a 12ST engine) that wont turn over no matter how hard I try. Looks like water's got in through the carb and down into the block.

Its been stood for 2 years "dry stored" apparently, never seen an engine get seized from being dry stored, and get covered in moss but anyway...

Do we rekon its salvageable or scrap?

I had an engine like that once. I had to knock the piston out the top with a large hammer and a bit of wood. One of the bores was rusted up. would need a rebore and new pistons.

before you strip it put some WD40 down the bores, leave it overnight and then just gently try and turn it, dont shock it.

Usualy i would say rock the car backwards and forwards but its not in a car lol

If your going to strip it to build the 1400 high comp engine then as long as the bores are in good cond do it.

Ive seen engines get seized from sitting in a garage for 6months lol

for what you can get a runner for, strip the ancillaries & weigh the engine in

There are no ancillaries, theres a F10WR attachtech to it.

The carb is rusted up and theres nothing else apart from the exhaust manifold on it.

Even the Cams got surface rust on it.

Bit miffed cause it took ages to get this one. Anyone know the typical scrap value of a block at the moment?

Draper is it a 12ST? or later model?

you'll maybe get £10 or £15 for it...

it'll be the later one - its out of a J plated merit

as i've stated on here a lot of times. if you use a 1200 block, then it will still need the bores doing, cos the 1300 crank has a longer stroke & the wear grooves will be wrong, causing the rings to fail. maybe the engine, once stripped will be ok, but expect pitting in the bores from a sat outside engine.

mowgli do you mean just have them honed or completely rebored?

it depends on the wear in the bores.
