You need a twin sender oil sender for it to work from a sr gsi or other vauxhall that had similar style gauges.
Usually reads full when its not connected. Have you fitted the two pin sender to the engine?
i unplugged them from my sr and fitted them into my d reg 1.2 just uncliped speedo and loom plug. the rev counters not working either. is there some wires hiding somewhere?

you need to run a wire from the coil to get the rev counter working, not sure which. have a search. and as said, you need the 2 pin oil sender for the oil pressure guage to read

You will need the oil sender from the sr and for the rev counter to work you will need to run a wire from the coil to the back of the rev counter.
there is a green wire usually hidden in the loom that is for the rev counter

yep the clocks arent a straight swap. There's been a few threads on here about the rev counter, and probably about the oil sender aswell. but have a search though ;)
could anyone explain this 2 pin sender more clearly? so im looking for a green wire for the rev counter and if not run a wire from the coil? (positive or negative side?)

mowgli knows about which wires etc.. but you will either need to swap the oil pressure sender from the sr, onto the 1.2 or buy a new one.

One pin sender works the warning light, two pin sender works light and gauge. You need the two pin to run the gauge, straight swap but you will need to run a wire to the clocks from the sender if its not taped up in the loom.
Rev counter comes from negative side of coil.
Swap the sender, from my experiance the wire for the sender is already there. Rev gauge needs a wire running from the neg side of the coil.

where is this sender i have a 1.2 in there now but will soon be a xe
Your need the sender from a SR or GTE/GSI, you cant miss it on the back of the oil pump, get the wheel off and it should be staring you in the face. The standard 1.2 will have a single wire item.
It's not there on the 1.2 as i found out recently, run a second wire.
Seems funny that some have it and others dont lol

if your still unsure mate, a standard 1 pin switch for just the warning light looks like this:

and a 2 pin pressure sender looks like this:

there located on the drivers side back corner of the engine on 8 valves. i think its a 22 or 24 mil spanner size, almost directly under the alternator.
watch out changing it, u might get some oil dribble outta the hole, it'd be advisable to park the car on a slight downward facing slope to let the oil level move away from it.
There not both the same size spanner jimbob. And there should be a bit come out even if you parked on a hill lol its pressurised, may be a good idea to do it in the morning before the car has been started.

you need a sender from an sr or gte, those oil pressure guages are pretty rubbish tho because they pick up off an electric signal, to get an accurate reading you need to put a proper oil pressure guage in that picks up mechanical oil pressure rather than just an electric signal, rev counter, run a wire from the negative side of the coil onto the spade connector on the back of the clocks, (thats if your running a basic mk1 )
