hi guys, thinking of buying a x16xe and re-building it in the garage while i'm running the 8 valve motor over the next year. just unsure of the specs people can acheive from these engines with bike bodies. the rally guys seem to get awsome power out of the 1400. ( i was looking at a corsa the other day that made 170bhp with bike bodies and of course loads of other bits and bobs )

I've used Autosprint with the build of my 8 valve engine. i think their great with very resonable pricing. the spec i'm looking at is as follows

-bike bodies
-omex
-autosprint 288deg cams with hydrolic uprated valve gear
-bit of port matching on the head
-the usual arp bolts..etc

The thing i'm unsure of is what power it will produce and what are the best bike bodies to use?

The engine needs to be of course better than the 8 valve motor, otherwise its time and money wasted

any opinions would help me out

cheers

To give a idea, CG's old C16XE engine (now Jays) put out 150 with the standard ecu and stuff. Full spec can be found on here somwhere.

I reckon you would be well above 200bhp.

thats interesting, i'd be happy with 170bhp and a 8k rev limit

No chance at 200 with that spec.

To get around 190 you need high comp pistons, big exhaust manifold etc etc.

160ish hp you should see at a guess. Depends on how you fit the bike bodies, a lot of power can be lost in a badly made inlet.....

Brosters old engine was about 190-200 and it was a damn site funkier than that spec!

Personally I reckon on the 150-160 side of things with bike carbs, management, cams, verniers and bottom end bolts. Still wouldn't rev higher than 7,500 on standard internals. If you change to better internals (at a cost) you might start seeing the 180 side of things.
Most of the guys getting around 200hp are spending in the region of £10,000

which throttle bodies did he use stuart?

cricky don't wanna spend 10k, but then again i'm not expecting anywhere around 200bhp

If you've the money get jenveys IMO or sbd equivalent.

ah, i'd love jenvys but I can't stretch the wallet that far. I work at a car dealership that also sell bikes so i can get my hands on some bike bodies happy enough. just don't know which ones. the gsxr k1 uses 42mm bodies i believe, i was thinking of going for them.

Basically a set of blackbird or r1 carbs will be adequate for the job. Just a matter of getting a manifold made up (pm Tom Reid off here) and a set of management (ignition only needed) alot use the ford yes ford crank pulley and edis for this.

i'd rather run injection as i'm using carbs now with the 8 valve motor.

As said mine is about 145bhp Getting rev limit raised when i get it chipped and then will be getting a 421 exhaust manifold then back on the rollers should see 150bhp when fuly setup.

AW - have a word, 200 in that spec ???

it all depends on the mapping, how much porting/polishing/the exhasut/how tired the engine is - far to many variables to pick a figure - you should get a good pulling engine tho that will put a smile on your face

Mine is putting out 193bhp, with quite an extensive spec and jenvey/SBD taper bodies. Although cams are holding me back.

P.s. my head work, balancing, lightening, cams and valve springs are all Autosprint sourced :thumb:

yeah you will need to do a lot of internal mods and management to hit 200! good luck with it tho. either way its gonna sound awesome!

oli your engine kinda inspired me to go 16valve on tb's next. I wanna stay small block. How would the cams I'm looking at compair to yours oli?

The engine will under go a complete rebuild and lighted and balance the whole lot. If i can find some pistons at a good price then I'll make that happen and it will see a 1650 re-bore.
