howdy all, stumbled across this place, its excellent, top marks,I used to have a 1 litre nova a while back,1990,3 door, but she was rotton,so a few years later, nova fever has got me,I just got a 91,1.2 merit, with mot,for 90 quid,5 door unfortunatly, seems sound, but bit of over run and timings off, might be the source of it,but shes too quick foir 1.2,she does the ton no bother,i got a 1.4 sr unit ready for her,but im windering if i should just add the 5 speed box and see how it goes,im still convinced the engine is a 1.4 and not a 1.2,its just too quick for 1.2...i dunno..anyone know where to look for details on block to see if its a 1.4?...cheers..and say hi..lol..coz im gonna make a 5 door look good...hehe...

you wanna speak to locky about hte 5 door styling - his 5 door is quite nice.

as for the engine, i dunno where to look for the stamp on it to say what size it is - but i do know that my 1.2 would do 100mph without too much trouble... wouldnt get much higher than that without a really big hill though. and the 1.2 is quite a quick engine, just ask MC  he is tuning one at the moment to see just what yuo can get out of it.

the head will have the engine it came from stamped on it above cyl 4's spark plug

directly below this there is a face machined out of the block that will have the engine code stamped on it, u will prollyneed ome kinda solvent to get thru the grease and the writing itself is very thin

if its a 1200 it should have 12 then a 2 digit number S for carb and NZ for SPi if i recall correctly

it could well have been fiddled with tho

could be a 1400 block and 1200 head meaning it will be more powerful than an SR since the compression ratio will be up quite a bit

check the carb - if its a 2E3 or weber (twin choke) then its been tinkered with, some folk also recon the 1200i (which i have) can feel fast in the lower gears because it has more torque than the standard 1200 carb but it has 10bhp less so suffers at the top end - the engine code will be 12NZ if its a 1200i

on a side note it could just as easily be a 1200 block with 1300 crank and pistons giving 1408cc or summat

and finding out that will be slightly more difficult - infact its a good mod to do if u wanna dodge the insurance company :D

couple it will a nice rally cam and a 2E3 you'd never be caught - the only visible part would be the 2e3 and u could say u assumed that was standard

alright,I actually found the print myself, when i got to work,Im a tractor mechanic, lol, anyways,it is a 1.2,not tinkered, but one prb,i checked the chassis at the back, and shes rotton,it could be patched, but it would only lat a year, tops,so i will drive her till tax runs up,6 months, and look for another clean model in the mean time,i aint a happy chappie...thanks for the comments guys..i am very interested in the 1.2 with 1300 crank,im gonna save the engine...so,now im left with a 4 and 5 speeds gearboxes, and a 1.2 and 1.4 unit out of sr,just need a clean shell...
