Hey, new guy would like some help

Hey! today i brought my first car that i can legally drive! I brough a k reg 1.2 merit saloon, its only had one lady owner, pretty much full service history and less than 60,000 miles. i paid 260 from my local dea dealership. when it comes to cars, ive had a nova van, a 106, a metro, andnow this. its completely standard. i'll be uploading som photos shortly but for now i'd like some ideas on how i canmake it a little better?

its a 4 door, when i had the nova van it came with gte bumpers i think, do you know if they would fit on front an back? and better as in its desperate need f some t-cut and some time with a dyson to clean up the inside, but its just a bit plain. evrything is how it was but dirty, it even has reflectors on the front doors! thanks for the replies guys=]

yeah essex members!! lol gte bumpers go on the front, but not the back, because the back bumper is alot longer.

yeah, i picked it up from the dealer today and drove it home -shouldnt have but hey....(2miles ish and it wasnt a bad drive!) looking to be insured on it about 2/3 weeks time so just wanted something to work on beween work and sleeping.

so its a mk1? gte front bumper, skirts maybe? id be tempted to with the complete gte/sr front end look, clear indicators, gte or sr grill etc... make it look smart :) big spoiler, big exhaust, tints, sound system worth more than the car, and you cant forget that huge body kit. im sure everyone will agree with me on here about those mods.... lol lol lol

im not to keen on spoilers unless they are sublte like on bmw's.
its pretty tidy, no dents, a little bit of surface rust on the rear right arch

my 1.2l carbed does 100mph if the speedo is correct at that speed pretty nippy for what it is and mph i cant quite remeber im sure somebody will though is it 49 ish -colour?????????????

mine does 30-35mpg without thrashing it, being a 1.4 well, it did before the backbox fell off lol, and before it came off the road, lol

i think its a mk 2, it has the small grill and lights, unlike the dreg one i saw on here with the huge plastic slatted grill (someones project car, went from blue to yellow)

wicked. i noticed that all my dash lights and radio etc were on when i went down to my car, but there were no keys in the igntion, dooes anyone else know why this could be?

:O oooh no, welcome to nova ism, if your planning on driving teh car, get out and disconnect the battery m8, basiclly, if its a mk2 like you say, brick through the window, snap the steering lock, hazard switch in backwards bump start and theyre gone ,

Looks fairly clean mate, not bad at all,

imho, deck it, some speedlines or whatever takes your fancy, debadge, then just tidy the bay up and treat any rust you do find,

check under the headlights, behind both bumpers and the bottoms of all the doors,

any tips on treating rust?
ive been around cars and bikes a while but never really touched rust etc. did help put a redtop engine in my nova van tho=]
shame i moved house and had to sell it...

erm, if its surface as you say, get the wire brush attatchment on a drill and take the rust off with that then primer as soon as your done to prevent it starting again, if its gone through, you can do as above, then filler to bodge it, or replace the panel,

i'll be taking a proper look at it tomorow when i have some daylight, and less rain hopefully but thanks for the advice.
if you know any cheap or home remedy's for the smell of old people they would be appericated
