View Full Version : advice please on bottom end (1.6 8v)

been smoothing back the engine removing the crap its collected and after a gud clean i noticed a small pin hole in the bottom end! just below the manifold where there is 4 alloy caps in, it goes straight into the engine! its actully on the car....



i wasnt able get a decent pic as it was late when i noticed it so will bang a pic up later today just want some advice on how fix it

its about 3/4 times thicker than a paint brush hair

That's the core-plug, they're meant to pop out if the coolant freezes to release the pressure from the expansion hopefully avoiding cracking the block.

They do rust away though if the anti-freeze is old or hasn't been used, dealers or a decent engine parts shop should be able to get them. Hammer a screwdriver through the middle to remove and tap the new one/s in with a socket that just fits inside them.

Good motorfactors, Vauxhall or a engine builder will be your best bet, no more then £10 i bet.
