I've been working on a few mirrors on & off for ages now.
In typical style I have forgotten to take pics at various vital stages too, but these pics should show the way I do it well enough.
To start out with I intend to retain the remote adjust for the mirror glass via the in-cabin toggle. I determine how much I want to shorten the mirror body by & calculate where to cut into the mirror base. I remove an end section, then remove more material from the mirror body, then look into halving the end section so in effect 2 new corners are being grafted in.

As you can see I have already bonded & set this in place so far. Strips of steel are bent & inserted through the deep channels that are around the edge of the mirror body & Araldited in place.

P40 fibreglass filler is used to bridge the gaps in the edges of the mirror body created by the shortening. There is a difference in depth from the inside of the mirror to outside, it gets thinner. So where it is joined there will likely be a step. I have tried to lose the step in my sanding of the glassfibre filler.
