I've been working on a few mirrors on & off for ages now.

In typical style I have forgotten to take pics at various vital stages too, but these pics should show the way I do it well enough.

To start out with I intend to retain the remote adjust for the mirror glass via the in-cabin toggle. I determine how much I want to shorten the mirror body by & calculate where to cut into the mirror base. I remove an end section, then remove more material from the mirror body, then look into halving the end section so in effect 2 new corners are being grafted in.

As you can see I have already bonded & set this in place so far. Strips of steel are bent & inserted through the deep channels that are around the edge of the mirror body & Araldited in place.

P40 fibreglass filler is used to bridge the gaps in the edges of the mirror body created by the shortening. There is a difference in depth from the inside of the mirror to outside, it gets thinner. So where it is joined there will likely be a step. I have tried to lose the step in my sanding of the glassfibre filler.

Some P38 body filler needs to be smoothed about the outer edges & 1 or 2 holes filled in & smoothed out & then the body as shown above is ready for some Black paint. Note the base of the swivel mount for the glass is still inside, I basically shorten the body upto that point.

Moving onto the mirror covers.

In much the same way as the bodies were cut off & 2 new corners grafted in. I trimmed up a mirror cover to look like so.

Then laid it over the mirror body. You can kind of see it take shape now..

I have put tin-foil over the mirror body so fibreglass filler can't get in any hidden nooks & prevent the cover lifting off.

Seems everyone has their own methods to achieve the same result. Look good so far though. Kind of how i would have done it.

Cheers all.

I have kinda rushed this one so I have it on for Billing. Paint is wet now!!

Few flaws in the paint & filler prep, but I'll re do them after the weekend.

Get some pics of them fitted - How long did it take you to do them ?

Looks a perfect way for making them
