IT goes from 0 to 60mph in four seconds — and from 195mph supercar to charred wreck in about four minutes.

This stunning Lamborghini Gallardo — one of fewer than 400 in the country — burst into flames as shocked clubbers looked on.

The 2005 model, believed to be on a test drive and valued at £75,000, pulled up outside offices and bars in Peterborough on Friday night with smoke billowing from its engine.
Two men jumped out of the car before dashing off to find a fire extinguisher and call 999.

But it was too late for the bright orange supercar which was devastated by the fireball.
Colin Jeffery, assistant manager of the nearby Solstice bar, said: "It was engulfed in flames and was there were loud popping noises all over the place as the windows and the tyres exploded.

"It's nothing new to see a car on fire but to see a Lamborghini in flames is something else altogether. It was an unbelievable sight, to be honest. Quite surreal."

Firefighters spent about 20 minutes bringing the blaze under control. Chief volunteer fire officer Tony De Matteis said: "It was a bit of an unusual one for us because it was quite different from the usual Fiestas or Escorts that we get called to.

"This one was made worse for us because there is so much carbon fibre and alloy construction with high-performance cars, which makes it more of an intense fire than a standard car."

Antony Hawkes, chairman of Lamborghini Club UK, said there are only 5,000 to 6,000 Gallardos in existence and only a few hundred on the road in Britain.
Mr Hawkes said: "It's heartbreaking for whoever owns it and looking of the pictures of it burned out is quite a distressing sight."

Thats quite a lot really. Probably less Novas on the road lol

No doubt the insurance payout will cover it anyway!

aha, i know why all supercars catch fire,

1) there crap lol
2) there going that fast, the air flowing over the body becomes superheated, melts the paint, then when the sonic boom happens it blows the backend off, making the burning paint flakes go into the engine bay and catch fire

wow there is more gallllllllardos than VX220's.... awesome!

tbh I'd never bother trying to put a fire out on an Ali tubbed car. As chances are you will get a powder extinguisher and that eats Ali over a year or so and the car that didnt get written off by flames then falls apart and the insurance wont care :(

is that true! what is it in the powder that does so..... and if so, when a powder fire extinguisher got set off over my rock lobster ali bike frame.... will this have done damage?!

yes its true, a few elise owners have had it happen to them.

I dont think firing it off over a "cold" metal is a problem its only if it was hot from the fire and it triggers some sort of tin worm reaction.

German actually. Its only an R8 with some italian styling. Even supercars platform share nowadays lol Although chances of devious german engineer building in defects to make the Gallies all catch fire wouldnt surprise me in the slightest lol
