Hydraulic Handbrake maybe? I don't know much about them but I know you can get kits and they are used in rally Novas

what do you mean crap?do you mean it comes up a long way and doesnt "bite" or that it only comes up a few clicks but doesnt stop you/lock the rear wheels up?

Andy Gibson does kits to convert standard H-brake into hydraulic for only £47.50, I've "used" a car with a hydraulic h-brake and can imagine they are brilliant for rallying.

it just doesent lock the back wheels when the car is moving. Iv put a screw through it to make it a "fly off" handbrake would that have something to do with it?

you would be hard pushed to lock the rear wheels at any speed with a standard handbrake... hydraulic is the way you need to go down if you want to lock the wheels. :thumb:

Some Novas do suffer from poor handbrake syndrome wheras others lock up really nicely. Try some other drums with new shoes perhaps??

Seconded :)

Mines has got a new handbrake cable and the drums have been rebuilt/freshened up inside

what size tyres are you running??? my first nova had 165/70r13's & you could handbrake it round easily, and a quick dab would get the back end out nicely... why not get a bias valve fitted, so you can use the foot brake to work the rears, then you can learn left foot braking too

My handbrake is very good, soon as I yank the lever it locks easy. My handbrake is 3 clicks. 1st click does nothing 2nd click holds but you can still manage to move the car with a bit of force, 3rd click its solid.

Check the cable isn't stretched, check your drums are in good nick and get the whole lot adjusted properly.
