Found this on a mates street last week and mentioned to him how i wouldn't mind it, as my mate walked past the house the guy came out (he knows him) and jokingly offered him £50 for it on my behalf, only for the guy to say yes! So i now own my first GSi, and for a £50 rolling shell its pretty funking sweet

The corsa has nothing to do with me btw:

NO RIP!!!:

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/91%20GSi/Photo0494.jpg

Quite tidy really apart from a patch on the main N/S seam:

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/91%20GSi/Photo0495.jpg

Was very surprised by this, no rot:

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/91%20GSi/Photo0496.jpg

Overall it is a very clean shell and most parts are all there, its missing door pins, few switches off the dash, it had no drivers window so i found one nocking about in my garden (been there nearly 2 years and not got smashed ), drivers cental locking motor, basically its missing easily sourcable bits that are not of major importance. Needless to say im very chuffed. This is all :D

21-07-09, 12:19 AM
Well a bit of an update people, started stripping the XE down today, thinking i was going to find a mess in the sump, oil was a bit mettallic and stunk of petrol, which had me thinking this is a more 'top end' problem. Took off the inlet etc and as me and Terry were struggling to get the sump off (2 gaskets and what seemed like a whole tub of sealer holding it on well) my dad, as blind as he is spotted something in one of the inlet ports....

Engine in air:

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/91%20GSi/Photo0504.jpg

On stand during dismantling:

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/91%20GSi/Photo0505.jpg

And the nice little surprise that was wedged in one of the inlet valves:

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/91%20GSi/P7200376.jpg

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/91%20GSi/P7200377.jpg

So tomorrow i'll be taking the head off and inspecting for more damage. This is all.

gunny
21-07-09, 11:34 PM
Thanks Stuart

Did more stripping of the engine today, found the rest of the jubilee clip in bores 2+3 smashed into the head! Pistons are pretty much fooked so im in need of 2 pistons anyone? The valves and seats seam fine so just going to polish up the vavles a bit and stick with them, will hopefully be taking the head to get preassure checked and skimmed on the weekend and then flat out the little pits around the valves on the head. Also going to be needing big end bearings as they dont look too fantastico, crank is fine though, so all in all its not really too bad, nice cheap fixes so should have it all up and running soon, piccies...

The pistons in the block once i removed the head:

Im quite pleased really as it looks to have had a recent water pump, belt and tensioners, maybe oil pump, the head all looks nice and fresh inside just a shame about the Jubilee incedent.

Havent updated as i havent really been taking pics, the engine is finished, ginge finished the engine bay and me and paget painted it saturday (look absolutely sh*te btw), spent this evening fannying about and checking it over, then at 9pm decided it was going in, finished and packed up at 20 to 10, alternator needs a little more clearance though as ginge didn't cut the hole deep enoug, so im going to take off the inlet and alt tomorrow and enforce the good old lump hammer technique.

Should be running tomorrow if i pull my finger out :)

Edit: if anybody can help, i need the long bolt that goes through the front gearbox mount and the same for the rear...
