View Full Version : urgent help needed: high revving

fitted a 16SV into my nova earlier today.
starts up but revs its tits off, way higher than an auto choke can push it to, so high that i have to turn it off straight away before it destroys itself - why ?

coupla things im dubious about:

one : thers a couple of vaccum pipes coming off the 2e carb, one of them goes to the dizzy (which isnt hooked up) and one goes to the binlin airbox (i think), which of these i dont know go where, and one of them has been cut short so not sure what im gonna do about that. anyone got any knowledge of the 2e carb and what goes where ?

two : theres a slight tear at the base end of a plastic pipe attachment thats something to do with the auto choke, can most probably be fixed with super glue this prob tho.

three : theres a 2 pin connector at the backside of the block, any idea what this is ?

any help much appreciated and will plus rep, its imperitive i get this sorted by friday or the 1.6 has gotta come out and the 1.2 go back in as i need my car for work monday (and that will just take the piss).

The two little pipes can be blocked off. Id check the throttle cable adjustment too.

one more thing, the clutch feels hefty stiff to normal, this wouldnt have anything to do with it would it ?

they must be there for a reason man ? what do they do ?

as far as im aware, throttle cables fine, but good point, will double check it tommora while im there.

The one that goes to the binlid is for the hot air feed, not needed. The other is problery dizzy, which is the idle advance, also not needed.

Yea those wee vaccum pipes are only really relevant at idle if I'm right.

Its gotta be something to with throttle/cable etc... afterall what else could it be.

anyone got a picture of the 2e carb that can point me to which ones which ?

all i can tell u is the one on the left has a longish pipe attached that could stretch to the airbox or the dizzy and the one on the right has been cut down.

if i cant get hold of any skinny pipe or what have you, what should i do with them, block all 3 ? those 2 and the dizzy one ?

any idea what that 2 pin connecter is on the backside of the block ?

exhaust is still givvin me sh1t too, its wedged on the underside of the sump now, bloody thing. gonna have to screwdriver the sump in to make clearance or it's probably gonna boil the oil.

have you messed about with the carb at all?

i took apart a bike carb and put it back together, and i fitted one part wrong and as soon as i started it it was revving its nutss off....

just had a thought, ignition timing might have some roll in it, well even tho its 5 granding it at idle, might knock it down 500 rpm atleast.

nah aint touched the carb, and im prety sure the throttle was hitting the rest point for idle, its still got its lil plastic security tabs on the tuning screws so it probably hasnt been messed with before hand either.

one more thing aswell, which wire in the loom goes to the auto choke male spade ? need the change the bloody bulb in my dash as the manual choke one never lit up anyway.

whats the damn score with the sump too ? are the 1.6 sumps bigger than 1.2's ? can i get away with removing that mid baffle plate thing and one of the gaskets, and using the 1.2 sump on a single gasket ?

fkin... if i have to take that 4 branch off one more fcukin time, i swear im gonna loose my mind and dalse the car in petrol and jump off the ifle tower.

update : managed to get the idle under control, think it was a combination of the 3 vaccums and a sticky throttle linkage.

took it out for a road test and its pinking alot, low down in the revs and high up in the revs, only ever seen an engine pink at one end, what could cause this ? i advanced and retarded the ignition, but it didnt help much, just shifted those 2 pink points up and down. if i leave it idling by itself, after about 2 mins it'll cut out ?????

its running ferkin hot too, stat cuts in at a quarter temp, and its constantly above that, so the stat must just be open constantly, fan cuts in every minute or so.

i think a complete gte exhaust is the only thing thats gonna fit properly in this thing.
