i'm not having a go at anybody, but i've just seen the civic in the for sale section and thought "you've spent all that money and its still only a 1.3"

why do people do this? what is the purpose of these cars other than to sit in a garage and be used occasionally to drive (or trailer as i've seen before) to shows?

i realy dont get it

edit and before anybody says "its small engined for insurance" thats a load of balls, if all the audio and bodywork had been declared it'd probably bump the insurance up somewhere near an engine swap anyway

praps they want to be different. everyone keeps telling me to put a let or red top in the estate. but one i cant for insurance purposes and two its a nice change to see the original engine in its bay.

also if youve spent so much time doing that bodywork why would you put an engine with a million horsepower in so you can do a thousand mph so that no one then sees it as you go by

Not everyone needs big horse power...

Most roads you cant use it on anyway, so why not spend the money on the looks...

Not all show cars are trailor queens.

Lets face it, the main appeal of the car scene is the social side, meeting like-minded people at shows and on the net.

Having a "show car" allows you to enter the shows, win prizes, meet new people.

May not be your think but who are we to judge

depends on insurance really, my insurance company dont charge me for any cosmetic or audio modifications, and i can modify the engine up to 80bhp before they charge me more. dont wanna put my insurance up so i just concentrate on cosmetics

Thats what I thought but they are the same in all of the photos. I know, lets make a wheel look like they are made out of cardboard and stuck on!

Theres probably a simple explanation like the guy is CRAP at engine work (like me) but likes body work (like me).

the thing is tho, as you staed above you both have pros and cons but have of these so called show cars look ****, i think there are a few basic princaples to a nice design, which i know you have ade from your bumper creation. the kids that do the show cars and kids with to much money and no design influence.

they just go for the biggest body kits, the lowest to the ground.

and for example that blue french thing above, wtf lol look at the STAR exhausts. thats mental. but you woudl only see it on a show car.
i think a show car is something which shouldnt be driven. it should just sit and show...
i always think show cars as being a car which sits on a new stand and displays the new years products. and maybe these amatuers are "pushing" the boundries....

So whats the point? A car is designed as a mode of transport, not to just sit there and be looked at. Pointless mods, or ones which make the car worse, are what I can't get my head round (anyone who asks why my car has four headlights has clearly never noticed how bad std nova lamps are lol). Massive wheels, such as on the blue monstrousity above, excessive lowering, air-dam bodykits - all make the car handle worse, drive worse, or reduce economy/acceleration/top speed.

On the same level, I don't really agree with people who spend big dolla buying or restoring cars, only for them to then sit in a carcoon for 11 months of the year and only move 100 miles per annum. But I can kinda understand that as it tends to be people who want to preserve older, original cars which is fair enough.

Everyone has to have a hobby. I cant understand people who collect stamps, or arrange flowers, or throw themselves out of planes, or climb up rock faces with no safety ropes. Thing is, those things appeal to some people.

Those cars above, to me, look absolutely shonky, but to others they will be the dogs danglies.

Fair enough :)

thing is you say what the point of having it there to sit there and look at and only drive now and again, would you say that to someone with a collection of supercars that get driven once a month if there lucky.

plus you have project cars aswell. whats the point in them going by your logic. if a car is to drive why do so many people spend years building a car a project!!!!

iv never understood the argument about why don't you get a bigger engine. why does everybody have to want power over looks? maybe to some people they dont care about how fast their car can do, and lets face it that is quite sensible thinking, and want to show off thier taste and hobby instead of just going fast everywhere.

some people prefer looks, some people prefer speed, just get over it Lol :)
