View Full Version : Wheel touching gearbox on XE & MOT
How does everyone get on with an MOT with the wheels rubbing the gearbox on an XE conversion..?
Hope they dont notice. Touch/clean any marks up then dont use full lock before the mot.
If a spacer if you really have too.

they will possibly notice when checking ball joints and track rod ends.

fit competition lock-stops. job done.

LMAO, they all rub!!! because the box is physically too big for a nova.....

I cant beileve that, my speed lines tuched the f10 when mine was a 1.4.
I;ve never seen an f20 they didnt rub on.
Mine dont rub with my F13 and 15inch tigra 5spokes.
Mine didnt with a f15/\
But with my xe now you CANNOT avoid the tyre rubbing the box, if youve got your tracking set correct that is. If youve got a lot of tow out it will clear.
Lower offset wheels will help too

yea thet too ;) 7x13 starmags is wot you need lol
My Speedlines never rubbed on the F20 or the F28. Tracking is set to factory spec.
Probably down to wonderful build tolerances or something.
well....with my car jacked up with Vauxhall Pentalines (185/55/15) it rubbed. So we put one of my Pro Race 1.2's (195/45/15) on and its still rubbed :(
Dropped it down, locked it over and theres a health 8-10mm gap now, might be that they are ET45, not 49 - although we did set the camber as negative as it would go which i think helped..i'll grab a pic later..

If you jack the car up the wheels sag inwards so it is going to touch. When they test it on the MOT they shouldn't be jacking it up and turning the wheels, just when its normal.
Have you actually had the MOT yet?

but steering lock should be checked when the wheels are on the ground.

they will jack it up yes, butwhen hey test lock to lock clearance it should be done with the wheels on the ramp.
He didnt with mine/\
The suspension was fully extended with the wheels 5inches off the floor.

Not yet, as you said though, with the car jacked up they touched, dropped down they cleared.
They do check the lock when it on the ground, well our MOT bloke does..
