On an old 1200 anything cheap tbh. I've always used 10/40.
thick stuff for the 1.2 as they like to leak lol

its for a 1.6 im dropping in, i went for 10/40 semi in the end and a cheap filter, i'll change it again after 500 miles, mainly to clear it out a bit (if it needs it) ill prob stick 15/40 mineral in it after that with a vaux filter.
vauxhall's own brand 10W40 is good stuff and well priced. My celica mechs use it at their garage lol

I used to put 15w50 in my 1.2, I was given a load of it so I put it to good use :).

i bought a top up for my 1.2 the other day--tesco's 15w40 diesel oil. no expense spent :)
errr... 5w40 Synta Platuinum Fully Synthatic.... (trade £18 for 5 litre :D)
But yea a good quality 10w40 should be plenty good enough
you need a minimum of a 10w with an older engine so the hydraulic tappets don't rattle.. i'd personally use 15w40
