right the sr crank seal went an the engine was knocking and running on 3cylinders. is this easy to fix and whats the likely damage?
you have a blocked breather as a guess.
how much oil did it blow out????
i can't imagine it blew all of it out or did you overfill it??

it wasnt personally me. boy i bought the car off. says the seal went and it was knocking a bit. them was only running on 3?
Is the engine out of the car yet? Running on 3 is problery just a coinicdence.
Do the seal and get it back in the car and see if you can find out why it was running on 3.

If it's the "front" one it spews oil out over the crank pulley and cambelt, easy to replace even with the engine in the car (just pull the pulleys and cambelt off to get to it).
If it's the "rear" one it spews oil all over the back of the flywheel which inevitibly finds it's way onto the clutch if left. Flywheel needs to come off to replace this one but it's still a pretty easy job (especially with the engine out).

hmm thanks for the reply. whats causing the knocking then? or is it a pull apart job?

is it loud knocking noise? or like a tapping noise? when you say running on 3 are all the plugs and leads ok have you checked to see if there is any thing in one of the trumpits causing it to run on 3

no not checket plugs or that yet. will have to try that first. cheers
remember. the engine is OLD.... seals don't last for ever, neither do ht leads, and plugs. it might be simple, it might need a rebuild. just start with the easy bits.

thing is it had a rebuild just over 200 miles ago...
who by? my guess is not from a real mechanic..
if it has new seals, then the oil could be too thin
or the breather didn't get cleaned out...
how much did you pay for it??

rebuilt in 2006 by P.T.S of luton
new
pistons
big end shells
sump gasket
head gasget
oil filter
headbolts
earth strap
sealer
jubilee clips
jets
alternator belt
timing belt
etc total was£305 on parts and £756 labour
this engine has only done 200 miles in 3 years??
if the oil is still original, it will be really thin 'running in oil' or something similar.
the mains & crank weren't done, so the crank could be worn & moving around so the seal may not be seating very well.

i see. righ so the only thing for it is to take it to bits.
